Problem with Tutorial Lesson III

Post by witpqs »

I'm running through the tutorial to re-acquaint myself with the interface. In Lesson III (Sensors) Running the lesson as instructed (including settings) I've run into a problem that you should be aware of.

The Puller is supposed to gain ESM contact with one or two aircraft. Never happens. The first contact with one of them is visual. Please note that a surface vessel is picked up via ESM.

Next, Switching on the radar also fails to pick up the a/c. Being suspicious, I changed the range circle settings to who only sir search radar (not surface search). It appears the air search radar is not operating.

I ran the lesson twice with the same results.

I just ran Tutorial III and turned on the radar. Here is a shot of the image that appears. You can see that there are range rings for both the Surface and Air Search radar.

I am using the ODb.

I realized that I had failed to look at the large-scale map, so I went back to the scenario again. This time, I did get radar contact on only one aircraft (the manual says there are two - I only saw one), even though I cheated this time and turned on the radar right at the beginning.

I still did not get an ESM contact on the aircraft.

The previous two times I forgot to look at the large-scale map, so my report of no radar range was erroneous - I simply looked in the wrong place. However, I definately got no radar contacts on aircraft whatsoever those first two times (nor any ESM contacts on aircraft).

These might not be bugs in the code, maybe just that tutorial lesson got out of whack at some point.

It is also ODB that I am using (I presume it's the default for the tutorial).

I think that I've located your problem. You are correct. ANW messes up the Tutorial mission, IMO.

There are two aircraft in this lesson. However, I think that ANW causes all the aircraft to dive to LOW altitude (110m) when the session starts. Therefore, you see one a/c because it flies over you. The other one is below the radar horizon so it never shows up as either ESM or radar contact. If you watch the one that flies over you, you can see that it does so at 110m altitude.

and good luck getting the KC 135 and F 16 to conduct air-to-air refueling.....does not happen. Of course my ANW only ran one day....now it locks up my pc, when you try to choose a scenario.

TexasAg,

You're right - it was a problem. I did eventually get it to happen. I had to let the F-16 land and re-fuel because it was already at bingo and rtb before the lesson got to the refueling part. But, after it took off again, I was able to get it to air-to-air refuel following the instructions.
