Hi all,

Hi Rob - A mixture of planes. These have been noted over the past 2 months:

F4Fs
P39Ds
PBYs
Beaufort V-IXs
P36As
P40Es
Spitfire Vbs
SBDs
P400s
B25Cs
B26Bs
A20Bs

A further 38 were torched today for 3 losses.

Intel indicates c.50 fighters and c.50 bombers on the airfields. I'm tired of waiting so i'm sending in Hiei/Kirishima and Co to bombrd the place. Of course they'll have to get through 10's of PT boats first.

--------------

I'm also planning a major reinforcement of Akyab. At present there is 2 x 12 Tony groups and an A6M3 Daitai. 90 AV support. I plan on air lifting in an Aviation Regiment and moving forward 3 x 36 Tony Sentai and 2-3 Bomber Sentai.

Hi all,

Well at last a bit of Allied action in the South Pacific. Solely initiated by me sending out Hiei and Kirishima mind you[;)]

I was intrigued to see if he had any planes on naval attack so I left my ships without CAP. The ruse worked and 44 enemy planes attacked my TF 1/2 way to Noumea:

Day Air attack on TF at 71,110

Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 13
Beaufort V-IX x 31

Allied aircraft losses
SBD Dauntless: 5 damaged
Beaufort V-IX: 2 destroyed, 27 damaged

Japanese Ships
DD Tokitsukaze, Shell hits 4
BB Kirishima, Bomb hits 1
BB Hiei, Bomb hits 2
CA Atago
CL Yura

No major damage caused and 4 Beaufort's were lost to flak.

Tomorrow all A6M2's are on LRCAP over my ships. Hopefully they will bombard Noumea over the night....if they survive the PT's that is[8|]

------------------

The Nells/Betties are ordered to bomb Noumea's airfields tomorrow and are to be escorted by 2 x A6M3 Daitai.

------------------

My gut feeling is that Werner has moved out some squadrons from Noumea. My reasoning is thus:

Only 40ish fighters and bombers were reported at Noumea. 7 enemy fighters were lost on Ops today too.......

In many ways if he has i'm happy with that. It will allow me to deploy forces all around the region freely.

Hi all,

Well Noumea received a little visit by the IJN at night. Unfortunately all did not go to plan since bloody mines intervened:

TF 50 encounters mine field at Noumea (68,113)

Japanese Ships
DD Murakumo, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Arare, Mine hits 1, on fire
CA Atago, Mine hits 1, on fire

The remaining ships put some good fire on the airfield though:

Naval bombardment of Noumea, at 68,113

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
P-36A Mohawk: 1 destroyed
PBY Catalina: 1 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 3 destroyed
Beaufort V-IX: 4 destroyed
P-400 Airacobra: 1 destroyed

Japanese Ships
CL Yura
CL Nagara
CA Haguro
CA Myoko
CA Atago, on fire
BB Kirishima
BB Hiei

Allied ground losses:
791 casualties reported
Guns lost 5
Vehicles lost 6

Airbase hits 7
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 26

---------------------

During the daylight hours Noumea was bombed from Luganville. For once Werner (wisely) decided to put some fighters on CAP. They did little good mind you:

Day Air attack on Noumea , at 68,113

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 54
G3M Nell x 26
G4M1 Betty x 54
H8K Emily x 4

Allied aircraft
Spitfire Vb x 6
P-400 Airacobra x 1
P-39D Airacobra x 4
P-40E Warhawk x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 2 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Spitfire Vb: 5 destroyed
P-39D Airacobra: 4 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed
Beaufort V-IX: 3 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 2 destroyed

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 25

Aircraft bombing at 10000 feet

------------------

Noumea has been severely curtailed during the past months. Recon indicates a total of maybe 70ish planes left there. Some of these did try and hit the damaged Atago on the way home. They failed.

Unfortunately pesky PT's did NOT fail. Werner has placed the little gits all over the place:

Day Time Surface Combat, near Lifou at 70,111

Japanese Ships
CA Atago, on fire
DD Arare, Shell hits 11, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
PT PT-78
PT PT-81
PT PT-124

--------------------

Both Murakumo and Arare will probably sink. CA Atago will require port time. Hmm maybe I should just keep bombing him from the air due to the mines. We'll see.

--------------------

An I-Boat performed well but was VERY roughly handled for the rest of the day. I-17 located a convoy 300 miles NE of PH. She hit AK Empire Hartebeeste with a torpedo. From then on she was hunted by 4 DD's leaving her heavily damaged and flooding. She will probably not make Kwajalein

Hi all,

DD Murakumo succumbed to her wounds today. She was aided under by 2 torpedo's from Beauforts.

DD Arare is 120 miles from Luganville but will probably sink tomorrow.

CA Atago is fine and is at Luganville now.

I'm going to try a further bombardment mission. This time by Ise/Hyuga/3 x CA/2 x CL + DD's. They will be covered by A6M2's. If this mission also sustains losses I will not order any more sea bombardments.

----------------

Noumea was attacked from the air again. A handful of Allied fighters rose to meet my planes. 4 x A6M3 were lost to 10 enemy fighters but a further 30 enemy planes were destroyed on the ground.

----------------

A little ambush worked in Burma. 4 x A6M3 were flying CAP over my men at Kohima. Throughout the day they managed to shoot down 2 x Hurricanes and a B25C for no loss.

Total air losses for the day:

Allied: 43
Japanese: 7

Hi all,

The 19th Division is mainly ashore at Rangoon now. Enemy mines did sink AP Miyako Maru during entry into the harbour though...........

-------------

Werner once more sent a few fighters above Noumea to intercept my incoming horde:

A6M3 Zero x 48
G3M Nell x 25
G4M1 Betty x 53
H8K Emily x 5

Allied aircraft
Spitfire Vb x 3
P-36A Mohawk x 3
P-400 Airacobra x 3
P-39D Airacobra x 4

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 2 destroyed
G3M Nell: 1 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Spitfire Vb: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
P-36A Mohawk: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
P-400 Airacobra: 1 destroyed
P-39D Airacobra: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
SBD Dauntless: 3 destroyed
Beaufort V-IX: 6 destroyed
PBY Catalina: 1 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed
F4F-4 Wildcat: 2 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
35 casualties reported

Airbase hits 10
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 29

Aircraft bombing at 10000 feet

-----------------

Ise/Hyuga & Co should hopefully bombard Noumea tomorrow. They encountered a PT boat in the middle of the ocean today and she was soon despatched.

-----------------

Werner launched a surprise attack on the Burma/India rail line which failed:

Ground combat at 31,25

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 105048 troops, 1081 guns, 1070 vehicles, Assault Value = 2561

Defending force 73438 troops, 763 guns, 140 vehicles, Assault Value = 1398

Allied max assault: 2352 - adjusted assault: 1608

Japanese max defense: 1388 - adjusted defense: 2835

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
1085 casualties reported
Guns lost 27
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
2557 casualties reported
Guns lost 145
Vehicles lost 11

I have an additional Brigade 90 miles away. The 20th Division is at Akyab beginning it's march and the 19th has just unloaded at Rangoon.

Hi all,

Ise/Hyuga & Co did NOT bombard as ordered. They will hopefully go in tomorrow night[8|] Luckily weather socked in any Allied response from the air.

Noumea was attacked again. The 44 escorting M3 Zeros met 20ish assorted enemy planes. 4 were lost to the enemies 8 in the air. A further 20ish were destroyed on the ground.

--------------

Enemy sub spotted 300 miles from Luganville. 4x PC en route.......

--------------

CV Zuikaku down to 10 SYS [8D]

31 enemy planes lost today to my 15 - 6 of these were A6M2 ops losses covering Ise/Hyuga
