pacific theater scen.
Europe Aflame is one of my favorite scenarios so I decided to look for similar scenarios that covered the pacific theater (with the understanding that TOAW may not model the naval/air aspect all that great). So I found a couple on rugged defense that were made for CoW. Zero Hour and Countdown to Infamy. I downloaded, opened in toaw3 editor, saved, and went to the game. Countdown to Infamy seems to have some peculiar issue. For example, most of the aircraft and naval units show up as random bizarre assortment of equipment from the toaw equipment database. I can only imagine that unless the designer really intended the US Lexington be composed of 4 F-104, 18 Ju-87, etc that there is something lost in the translation. Any thoughts???[&:]
Also, if anyone does no of any such scenario that is well researched and playable for the enitire pac theater let me know.
thanks

RE: pacific theater scen.
Here's a scenario, Pacific At War, I used to play in TOAW CoW and other than a few problemos ( no supply on the Japanese islands for the Allies ) it's seems to play rather well. You'll just have to download this pig, take the ".txt" off the file name, unzip it, load it in T3 editor, save it and you'll be ready to go. It's one of my favorites. Maybe you'll like it too.

Looks to me like Countdown to Infamy needs a modified .EXE.
The blurb at Rugged Defense will always mention this if it's necessary.

you are correct and it is in the doc. but what does this mean? the .exe file downloaded with it but I cant seem to get it to work[&:] If i get this exe to work does that mean it will clear up the air/naval unit equip issue?

RE: pacific theater scen.
Modified .EXEs can only be used with previous versions of TOAW, usually CoW. Specifically, if you have loaded a scenario into the TOAW III editor and saved it, or are using a scenario that came with TOAW III, that scenario will not work with any modified .EXE.
There may also be legal type issues, but I'm not qualified to speak on those.

An all-of-the-Pacific-war scenario is just not going to work in TOAW, due to the limitations of the naval model, not to mention supply.
Try Matrix's War in the Pacific. That does pretty much what you're looking for.

...but I don't want to spend 70 dollars [:'(]...if there was one scenario that just has decent map, researched OOB, etc I am okay with the notion that the naval/air model may not be accurate...I am more interested in the ground fight anyhow, island hopping and the war in china, burma

You wanted to do a bloody Pearl Harbour scenario for goodness sakes.
Look: it is not necessary to muddle around trying to fudge the Pacific War in TOAW. Matrix already sells a game which does it pretty well.

TOAW is designed to handle classic mechanised campaigns. It won't do well with things like island hopping - Norm Koger.
There are some decent scenarios covering individual ground campaigns, both on the islands and in Burma, but connecting them up and featuring the naval aspects is a no-no. As to China, research on that subject is virtually impossible so you're probably out of luck.
I am not being a spoilsport here: the problems with naval and supply simulation will lead to really bizarre results which will mean that the quality of the land simulation is irrelevant; battles will be decided by factors which have nothing whatever to do with reality, and I don't find that much fun myself.

Countdown to Infamy is a great scenario although it does require it's own .exe. Does it not run on toaw 3? Is that true for all modified .exes?
RE: pacific theater scen.
No, TOAW III does not yet support a database editor.
RE: pacific theater scen.
The entire Pacific Theater is most definitely not for TOAW 3. TOAW 3 is for ground-based operational warfare, not naval-based. Buy War in the Pacific, available here at Matrix. That being said, Zero Hour is the best scenario available. Pacific At War is really bad. Countdown to Infamy is much better but has many design errors.

thanks chuck2. I appreciate the input. While I agree the TOAW may not model this theater accurately I just can't see forking out another 70 bucks--is WitP really that great? I have read the reviews and all that but I just don't think its for me...all that naval emphasis and the micromanagement[>:] I will give zero hour a shot. I really had no intent on playing a pac theater scenario through completion, sometimes I just like to download scenarios and examine the design, OOBs, maps, etc. Weird eh?

WITP is the end all be all of all Pacific War games. You will not find another better simulation in the past, now, or probably in the far future. Even the people that complain about it love it and know nothing else can beat it! Believe me once you try it it will be the best seventy bucks you ever spent and you will understand the cost it is a beast!

Could you enlighten us as to who created this masterpeice of TOAW design, Chuck? [;)]

I created it initially but have now given up on it. I offered it to "macgregor" so he could implement all of his ideas. He has not agreeded so anyone else who wants to can take over and create the next version of the scenario.
RE: pacific theater scen.
I was not aware of that! It'll require a modified .exe. My ACOW is down with my other computer so I would have to wait until a TOAW 3 version of bioedit is available. Thanks Chuck! I like what Mr. Malette did with Countdown. Though if I could I would try to implement speed loss and maybe some semblance of sub combat. Perhaps torpedo combat could be simulated substituting AT guns. I don't know. When a bioedit is developed for TOAW3 I will give it a shot.
