Nation Power levels

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Nation Power levels

Post by Russian Guard »

After spending 1/2 hour crawling through the forum, I finally decided to just ask this - I know the data is somewhere already but I just couldn't find it [:(]

What are the increases given to a Nation when you increase their power rating at game start, ie, +1, +2, +3 / stronger, much stronger, etc...I know about the added Corps with troops to fill it, but what are the economic or other impacts?

I believe that whatever these numbers are, were modified in a patch from 1.0, so I'm not trusting the manual numbers...

Thanks

Sheesh quicker to just keep looking in the archives [;)]

Here it is, quoting ericbabe from Dec 2005:

Power levels increase/decrease a nation's income:
-3: -50% income
-2: -25% income
-1: -12% income
+1: +12% income
+2: +25% income
+3: +50% income

Positive power levels also cause a nation to begin the game with one additional corps per power level and enough infantry, cavalry, and artillery to stock it.

I have never played with modified power levels. Is this a good option as compared to playing higher difficulty levels?

I normally play on 'Very Difficult' and I am not sure what it does, but I presume that it alters the results of battles a little bit, which I don't like.

Maybe I should just play on 'normal' with power -3, and then I will have to contend with having little money, so less troops and so on.

Interesting new thing to try....

I have occasionally used the Power levels in solo play in an attempt to reflect (IMO) the proper relationships in terms of economic and military power, historically.

So Sweden gets a -3, Turkey and Spain a -2, and Prussia a -1...and France a +1. Austria, Russia, and England stay at "0". By the by, I never play France in these circumstances [:'(]

Completely personal opinion of course.

My recent inquiry was related to player vs player, as we have a group now that intends to try the game TCP/IP when the new patch comes out. From that standpoint, I think the Prussian player (1805 scenario) needs a "+1" to be more competitive and have historical force levels.

I'd be happy to hear anyones views who has played multi-player Prussia in 1805, and see if they felt they were at a serious dis-advantage.
