RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
Karachi is doomed only if forts are going down fast
there will be enough time for this I think
even best fortress busters will need few weaks to finish such place
attack - 3-4 days reast and attack again and after 2-3 attacks full week is always needed - it is optimistic for attacker - there always may go bad dices and troops will need i.e. 2 weeks rest
the only problem i see is that eng units need to repair facilities before thay raise forts - it is place i would like to decide myself in game
advice - for all bases under heavy bomber attacks
put all units on no replacement - never and never have more than 4-5 planes repaired in sqn
so if you have more you do not reinforce if all are in good shape draw next 4-5 - it helps avoiding unnecessary losses on the ground
never enter loop with sqns loosing many planes on the ground
i assume you will be closed for a while
wait till your runway <50% dmg than you can start reinforcing
till that moment - forget about air units

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
Here's an update. Not much happening. Although I am surprised at the lack of hammering Nemo is doing to Karachi.

This is frustrating. If I could just get one or two torpedo hits, I'd put a real dent in his ability to shell karachi into oblivion. As it is, the bomb its are generally useless. A bit surprised that he would let the battleline take the risk though.

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
I have a question about DMSs accompanying a bombardment task force. Will they work to clear the mines while the bombardment task force bombards or do they need to be in separate task forces?
RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
[blockquote]I'm not sure from personnal experience, but in most AARs that I've read they have been embedded in the TFs themselves. Seemed to work well.[/blockquote]
RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
it works too good IMO

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
I'm not sure if the DMS sweep the mines, but they do prevent your CA/BB from using their hulls as minesweepers. [:D]

Finally! This makes two BBs that will be in drydock for a while. I am hopeful that I can continue to nibble away at the battleline. If I could disable another 3 or 4, his chances of taking Karachi are much reduced. Wishful thinking perhaps, but there are more subs on their way to Karachi and he's going to have to run the risk if he wants to bombard.[:D]

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
I think you made a major mistake in sending the RN to try conclusions with Nemo at Bombay, instead of waiting for him just off Karaichi. and if he takes his time getting there, you could always have tried a few more bombardments of his ground troops.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
generally, I would completely agree with you. however, as you will note, I had completely lost air superiority and leaving those surface forces in Karachi simply meant that they would go to the bottom without getting any licks in. Instead, I was able to take some of the IJN with me. If I had maintained control of the air, I would not have gone on that suicide run.

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
I am just wondering if it will work or if my bombers will be so tired from the flight that they will just get caught on the ground. Thoughts?

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
The morale of your 4e bombers will not go down from the transfer, but they will have high fatigue which will lead to higher than normal combat loses. However, since this is a "no holds bar" game, I say go for it. [:D]
You might to do it on a turn when there is bad weather (rain) at Karachi and allow them a chance to rest.

The loss of these ships in harbor is not unexpected and really unavoidable. They all had significant system and flotation damage and would have been unable to make a run to safety.

The loss of these ships in harbor is not unexpected and really unavoidable. They all had significant system and flotation damage and would have been unable to make a run to safety.

RE: Lunacy AND Shrewdness
This phase was a minesweeping phase. Any MS that enters an enemy base mined hex is subject both to sweeping and to become dead meat for the coastal batteries. Looks like you triggered a double battery fire phase for his forces - the minesweeping one and the naval bombardement one. Houston, we have a problem
It's become clear to me that Nemo is upset with me. I need advice on how to deal with this.
Nemo has engaged Karachi and in an effort to defend this critical city in this lunacy game, I have begun moving everything but the kitchen sink into Karachi. This was permitted by our agreed upon rules at the beginning of the game (teleportation around the map was permissible). Now as it is becoming clear that taking Karachi will be VERY difficult, if not impossible, Nemo is complaining about the teleportation tactic. In response to his concerns, I have offered the only compromise I believe I can live with: A cease fire until 10.43, no offensives out of Karachi until after that date, no airborne operations out of Karachi until after I have cleared the city hex adjoining Karachi (this will permit Nemo some level of comfort and no need to use forces to garrison other cities) and no naval sorties from Karachi until after 10.43. To date Nemo has chosen not to accept the trade off, which is fine, however, I need to know whether to continue to move troops into Karachi or not. Instead it appears that he is going to take another run at trying to reduce Karachi and then decide if to take my offer. This is obviously unfair on a number of levels.
I understood from the beginning that if Karachi fell I would lose access to these troops for the remainder of the game (something completely not possible IRL, but something I accepted as an agreed upon rule), now, however, it seems to me that while Nemo is more than happy to take advantage of the Japanese first move teleportation, he is incensed by my willingness to use it to my advantage. He also appears to be upset with my flying bombers through Russia to Karachi. Again, this was not suggested as impermissible during our negotiations of the game.
Can someone please provide some insight on the reasonableness of my position? I am enjoying the game very much, but believe that what is good for the goose should be good for the gander. Thanks for reading and hopefully I'll be back to posting combat updates soon.

Nomad,
Thanks for your reply. Although I appreciate the response, please don't quote from Nemo's AAR (no matter how innocuously) as I don't want to be subject to any accusations of having information not intended for my eyes.
Thanks again for posting and I appreciate the support.
