Why doesn't Malta op-fire?

Maybe I've missed something in the rules, but why doesn't the Malta Arty op-fire at the Italian navy as it passes through the Central Med? I've never seen it happen.

Arty will only op-fire if its at a narrows. Since Malta does not cover any norrows if you wish to cause op-fire place aircraft there that are capable of hitting the Axis ships. Fighters will not be good enough to provide op-fire on ships in most cases. Against transports they could hit but not Heavy Fleets.

Try putting a bomber or two in Malta as well as some fighters to protect them, and you can cause some major headaches for the Germans.


Don't neglect the artillery, though, or you might find a German amphibious invasion on your hands instead. [;)]
