More Supply Questions

Post by Crimguy »

Two questions actually:

1) When a supply convoy gets destroyed, is there any way to figure out where it got killed? Doesn't appear to be the case, but if not, it would be a nice feature to find units that are behind your lines.

2) I finished the Maleme scenario last night, and noticed two supply depots, one at the airfield, the other in the hills, centrally on the map. Do supply bases get their supplies from whichever is closest, or by assignment? I protected the central depot throughout, but by day 6 or so none of my units had any basics left. Some units never got resupplied for the remainder (an engineering batallion IIRC).

re 1): No

re 2): Click on the Base and hit the Show Supply lines button on the Display Toolbar. This will draw green lines to all those units ( and subordinate bases ) that are drawing on the selected Base.

Thx. Regarding #2, I did that - I'm just curious if I moved a base, whether it would then get supplies from a different source.

Each Resupply Determination event ( at 0600 and 1800 each day ) units determine which Base they will draw from. Essentially they look up their organic chain of command and use their organic Base. Eg. for 1st Pz Coy of 33rd Pz Regt it will look to use the 33rd Pz Regt Base. If this is unavailable for any reason it would go up to 3rd Pz Div Base. So moving Bases as such won't affect which Base a unit draws from.

OK I'm not using the COTA terminology. I'm more curious about which SEP the supply base draws supply from. Example:

Map has two supply entry points, SEP 1 and SEP 2. 1st Div. Base draws supply from SEP 1. Through the course of battle, the supply line to SEP 1 gets cut off. May 1st Div. Base draw supplies from SEP 2?

Yes. But this can only occur at the next Resupply Determination event.

I had them both - the airfield was pretty easy to take. I was just wondering what would happen if I lost the central SEP. Would 1/2 my units be SOL?

I have a related question. Does it matter whether the base is closer to the SEP or closer to the front line? Which is optimal?

The further a Base is from the SEP the longer it will take for its supplies to arrive. Similarly the further the drawing units are from their Base then the longer it will take for them to receive their supplies. If it were me and I had to choose I would opt to extend the range between the SEP and the Base and keep the range from the Base to the units short.

I have bases very close, but it still take quite a long time. Look at the screenshot.

For the Operation Merkur, Gliders have to take Maleme airfield in first day and accomplish their mission on day two.

Hi tramker,
Did you check the depot data in the base delivering the supplies? Is the "Dep" tab between "Cmd" and "Hist" tabs. I wonder if the base was maybe overwhelmed with other supply requests (emergency requests) and some of them were put on hold.

Cheers,
