AI for DDay

Post by Anendrue »

I know that AI development is still in its infancy coding wise. However most games seem to fail miserably in a prepared and coordinated Invasion Europa. Too many either come too early and too often hence continuously failing. While others, never come. With the myriad of options available for 2nd and 3rd fronts vs. the Axis. It might help to start laying out the ideas of how best to accomplish this. For all you WiF Experts what do you do and how do you do it? What defines the when, the where, the how, what units, what coordinated combinations of units from countries? If each country has an AI should the defense of England and Operation Overlord be a seperately considered Allied AI where all units in England are temporarily treated as a seperate country a single force with one objective... defend England until they can take and hold a beachhead until X amount of forces are present? Also if this is done what about the needs of each country to obtain their own victory conditions? At what point should the AI force a showdown of political objectives vs military strategy? Is it even possible to model the stress between Monty and Patton and their seperate strategic ideas? The variables here are quite extensive but if Steve is to code it perhaps it would help if we pesent ideas and methods for him to have as an effective base of ideas. As a WiF rookie (only completed 1 game in 8 starts due to military deployments and now lack of opponents) I would like to see what y'all think? (yes I'm from Texas) How can this be done effectively and competently?

From my experience, targeting Italy for conquest where possible should happen first, and the timing of another front can be contingent on how that goes. If the Axis commits heavily to preventing the conquest of Italy, then another invasion somewhere in France or perhaps the Balkans will succeed, whereas if the conquest of Italy presents itself, another big invasion can be planned to follow.
