Sandbox mode import of real players not working

I'm trying to fill a sandbox association with real-life players from 1946, and when I select that season and ask to "Import all players listed", I always get an error message at the end (run-time error 3021: There is no current record). It appears that the entire player pool from 1946 does not get imported, yet the game tells me (right before the draft starts) that I don't have enough players to fill all rosters (I asked for 35 man rosters for 16 teams). This doesn't seem right, but I continue anyway, and during the draft, I discover that none of the real-life pitchers are in the draft (they are all auto-created fictional pitchers). Position players are all there. It almost seems like I have some data corruption in Lahman??? Anyone else encountered this? Any advice would be appreciated.
