I want to encourage as many users to try out designing their own scenarios. One of the things that seems to make user reluctant is the diffciulties in coming up with historical data. Yes this does present some problem accessing historical maps and researching historical orders of battle.
However, there's much fun to be had designing and playing non-historical scenarios. You can start with one of the existing maps if you like. That solves half the problem. Then choose the type of scenario you would like - eg meeting engagement, attack v defence, advance v delay. Choose the forces you want. The easiest way is to start with one of the existing templates and just select the forces from the list. You don't have to worry about reinforcements to start with, just start all the forces on the map.
You can start off with just a few simple objectives at key points. Make it reciprocal for both sides - ie give them the same objective locations.
The keyword here is KISS - keep it simple stupid.
You can create a new meeting engagement scenario very easily as follows:
-
[1] Open one of the Templates in the ScenMaker
[2] Choose your desired map
[3] Drag the forces from the list onto the map, side A one end and side B at the opposite end
[4] Place a Secure objective in the middle of the map for both sides
[5] Save and Play
Feel free to create your own maps. These can be drawn freeform in the MapMaker. Just use your imagination. You can scan a map from an atlas or printed map and then use this as an underlay in the MapMaker. Then you just trace over it. To start with, don't worry too much about accuracy. After all it's only a hypothetical scenario, so no one is going to give you a hard time over accuracy.
It's a very enjoyable and creative process. I encourage you to have a go. [:)]
