High Visibility Graphics Mod

Post by Bil H »

Due to some of the complaints about being unable to discern some of the terrain features, elevations among them, I have worked up a graphics mod that is more symbology based. I also took out all of the texture I had on the elevation layers to make them clearer.

I changed the following tiles: urban; woods, light woods, orchards, marsh, rough, broken, and all elevation layers.

I am attaching a screen shot that shows the new light woods, woods, and marsh tiles.

If interested see my post below for a link.

I would be very interested in a graphic mod that made the one kilometer grid actually visible!

The light color of the grid completely disappears over the lightest (lowest) elevation color and is very hard to discern over the second lightest elevation color. I find myself constantly zooming in and out, and panning around to try and locate the grid lines, which is very annoying.

High-Vis Mod

It does for me - think I'm going to keep that as my "default" - no more blaming the map graphics for oversights [;)]

Hmmm.. well its a link I had to copy from an upload in the DDT forum.. perhaps you have to have access to that forum to be able to access it. We'll try to find a home for this mod.

For those of you who are getting it, please let me know if you run into any problems with it (for example I know I need to tweak the orchard tiles as the tiling is not working properly).

I updated the link above... I fixed a few issues (rough and broken are better now and I fixed the tiling issues with orchard).

Looks really good.

As the game allows different graphics for different zoom levels, is it possible to have these alternate graphics for zoom outs, and the regular graphics for zoom in?

Post # 4 above shows a screenie from an original map.

Usually a screen shot posted on a forum is lower quality than what you see in-game.

And so it is very strange that the elevations in that screen shot are easier for me to see than they are in the game.

The elevation change in the alternate graphics map are better than in the game.  But the remaining graphics, such as the woods are better in the game than in the alternate graphics.

Hey Joe98, thanks for that.. this thing will evolve over time. Its coments like this that will make it better, just wanted to say thanks.

Do keep in mind though that I am going for a more symbolic approach, not everything is about eye candy (personally I like the original graphics, I am just trying to fill a void)... however I do think something can be done to improve the wood tiles.

Great work Bil, much easier to see contours on my laptop screen. I actually really like the symbol feel, more like a proper topo map.

Are you going to put together a MapKey.bmp to go with it?

Cheers
