Question for Japanese Players

Post by Big B »

Always playing Allied in PBEMs - I'm not familiar enough with this aspect of typical Japanese play:

How high do you typically build your biggest Ship Repair Yard? and how long does that usually take?

i will look in my saves but i think that something about 100-200... and it takes a long time - if you have enough supplies in the base where are you want to expand RSHY only 1 RS point will be repaired each day....

My biggest repair yard is 142 in Tokyo. Tokyo starts with 71 and I started it on 7 Dec 41. It took 71 days to complete.

yup, Mike is right, you can expand your shipyards doubling them (as other industry as well)

My biggest is kure, I have it at 250 repair points a day. If I need to repair multiple carriers and BB'a, this is the port of choise...

Thanks guys.

One last question -
beyond the cost of (1000 supply per point?) is there an upper limit to which a ship repair yard may be built (example: double start size, triple start size, etc)?

I don't think there is a limit... I have Shangai at 180 (90 at start), Tokyo at 142 (base 71) and Osaka at 136 (base 34, expanded 2 times, size * 4), Maizuru (size 110) and Okayama (size 104) have not been expanded.

Some Japanese repair yards start at 1, 2 or 5. I have expanded at least one 3 or 4 times, that is x8 or x16 in size.

I confirm that the cost to repair is 1000 supplies per points, and the cost to expand (double the size, but with all new center damaged) is something like 100 supplies, 5 HI and some manpower per point.

There is a limit for all industry. After expanding past that point no expansion option is available. I do not know the exact number but it is at or around 200.

I don't bother to enlarge them. Shanghai and Manzuri with ARs and Fleet HQs do just fine.

So - you think there is an upper limit?

From experience once you expand a facility to a certain point the expand button disappears. When I get home I will check and see at what level these facilities are at but memory puts the limit at between 200 and 300.

If you would take a look at that (when you have time) and report back, that would be most helpful DFalcon[;)][8D]

I'm not sure what the upper limit is, if there is one but 200 is definitely not it (unless maybe for a/c). A lot of times the expand button will disappear simply because there aren't enough supplies at the base to expand any further.

The number of new (damaged) factories can never exceed 100. Pretty sure this is the only limit. Presumably one could keep expanding as factories repaired.

Well, just as an experiment -
I took stock scen 15, and on day 1 - I expanded Tokyo to ship repair yard of 471, naval yard to 380
Osaka/Kobe to repair yard 802, and naval yard 326; and Hiroshima to repair yard 161. I didn't bother to build up the other yards, but I could still have expanded other industries.

So that's 1,434 in ship repair yards, and 706 in naval construction yards just in those three cities.

Granted, it will take over two years to become fully operational at that maganatude - but that dwarfs what the Allies could hope to match, seeing how they cannot expand. Hmmmm

I'm sure there is a reason why a Japanese player would not want to do that...or is there?

Expansion is a two-step process. The act of expansion itself costs 1 Manpower, 1 HI, and 100 supply per factory created. The newly-created factories will now cost 1000 supply per factory to repair, with a max per hex per factory type of 1 per day.

From this information, if there is a reason not to do all of one's expansion at once, I'm sure you can figure it out.[;)]

The largest facility that still had an expansion button was 250. All the ones I checked with less than 250 could expand and all the factories with more could not. That would put the expansion limit at 500. There are HI facilities that start the game larger than this.

As Gary mentioned it is probably a supply limitation. My supplies in Japan are not over flowing. The biggest stock piles are in the 20-30k range and this would put the limit at 200-300.
