??? - Importing historical schedules

Q: Does PS2007 have the authentic schedules imported via the Lahman database? Or is there a generic schedule that is used?

I have only simmed a few years so not sure at this point.

If I need to import the authentic schedules, where is a database for that?

Many seasons are included.  If you are playing a season with a real schedule you will be prompted to use it.  I have used real schedules from 1921-1935.

www.retrosheet.org is the place for actual schedules and they can be imported,...... so I am told. [;)] I will be firing up a historical "replay" this weekend if I get some time to myself.

At the beginning of a season, click on options/utilities from your team home page (I believe that's where it is), and the option to import a schedule is there. It automatically takes you to some retrosheet schedules that are included.

It always tells me that you can't import once the season starts even when I try before spring training starts. How about a step by step on when and how to do it?

Actually I belive you have to do it AFTER spring training. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm running a long term sim on my gaming machine, so I can't check, sorry.

You are correct. The only time you can import a schedule is after spring training. Puresim also supports schedules from OOTP.

I've successfully imported a historical OOTP schedule into a historical draft association. As long as the league/division setups match, you should be OK.

I've actually imported two types of OOTP schedules and both have worked great with PS. I'm now in the process of editing one of the OOTP schedules and seeing if my edited version works with PS.

The only version I saw for my one league, two divisions, 7 teams per division format had an odd distribution of games. Teams would play their other 6 division foes 20 times each, and play teams in the opposite division 6 times each.

I'm using the site retrosheet.org to see who actually played whom on which date. I'm leaving in all the doubleheaders. In the cases where a game was rained out and never rescheduled, I decided to go ahead and make the teams play, so everyone gets 162 games.

As far as the editing process goes, it takes about an hour per month to write down the actual games played, then input the correct numbers into the document. I can see myself doing many such schedules in the future. It's a bit tedious and boring, but will feel good to be "historically accurate".

I never tried this configuation with my scheduler before so I figured I'd give it a shot. To read the output:
This is a master schedule output. Assume it is a schedule for "team #0" thats your team.

Col 1 is the team you are playing
Col 2 is how many games you play them
Col 3 is the number of 2 game series you play them
Col 4 is the number of 3 game series you play them
Col 5 is the number of 4 game series you play them

As for who the other teams play, when "0 plays 1", "2 will always play 3", "4 will always play 5", etc... Let me know if you want a text output to see if it will work in your assn.

Abev, thanks for the response, but I actually finished editing the OOTP .txt schedule. I made it match the ACTUAL 1979 AL schedule and tried it out on a test assn.

I fixed a couple of my own typos and thought I had it ready. When I looked again at the schedule calendars, a "mystery game" appeared on day 155. That particular game DID NOT appear anywhere in the text document.....strange. I just deleted everything on day 155 and wrote them again. This time, all appears well.

A month or so ago, I downloaded a schedule maker (possibly yours?) from a link either on the PS or OOTP site. The schedule maker looked great and was very user friendly, but it "demanded" a two league setup and I couldn't use it for my AL-only assn. I will definitely be looking to use it in the future.

For now, although it's a little boring, it's also a little fun to "create my own" schedules by editing a .txt document. It would go much quicker if there were a "comma" key on the keypad.[;)]

Not mine, probably the Stickware scheduler.

For as much customization as everyone wants, it would almost make sense to create a super tiny visual basic app that would help write the text file for people, as opposed to putting in a few params and having a schedule spit out.

I have ZERO programming experience, but am pretty quick and accurate with data entry-type applications. It was fairly easy to edit the .txt document for 1979. I've already got the 1980 schedule copied onto calendars and will be "creating" my 1980 .txt document schedule very soon.

If you know MS Access, you could import the csv file into an Access table then manipulate the data with the help of update queries.

Just so you know, you're recreating work I already did quite some time ago. I have, in simple text file format, every MLB original schedule from 1878-2006 sitting on my hard drive. Those files were the basis for the schedule files available on Retrosheet. (I sent the files over and volunteers proofed them against schedules published in newspapers or TSNs and any discrepancies uncovered were corrected. It's because of this proofing process that the entire run of 1878-2006 isn't available on Retrosheet - there were more files than there were volunteers or time to check over all of them.)

The files I have are the most up-to-date and actually supercede the files available on Retrosheet. The next most up-to-date versions are those available in this thread over on the OOTP boards: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/s ... hp?t=85752

The files available on Retrosheet, sadly, are the least up-to-date. Some day I'm going to get back in touch with Retrosheet and get the files updated and get more added to what's available... some day...

For my particular tastes, I wanted an AL-only schedule and didn't see how to get just the AL without bringing the NL along with it (PS would expect all 26 teams and not just my 14).

Interestingly enough, less than 24 hours ago I Googled my way to that same OOTP thread and was able to get the 1981 "pre-strike" sked I had been seeking. I had lost my link to the thread (I remember using it many months ago).

There's been a lot of schedule "chatter" on this board lately. I will certainly write down this link where I can refer to it whenever needed.
