In June '42, don't the British get their Spitfire's and are able to upgrade their air units??
If so, then the window of opportunity is closing. [:D]
Indeed, upgrades began in May and Spits come on line in June. However, with the AVG in India, the UK has resoundingly walloped the Japanese in the air at every turn. What this really means is that the UK is running about a 1:2 kill ratio, not great but it hurts him a lot more than it does me.

What has been the difficulty in India has been his ability to use Inf, Eng and ARM to reduce my bases to rubble. It's like fighting the Borg. We keep hitting them hard, but it hardly seems to phase their assimilation machine.

You may have to make clones of "7 of 9" and place them at the front of your troops to give the Japanese some reason to pause. [:D][:D]

Whoever said the China theater was static?

Theater Update

China

The war in China is in a highly dynamic phase. Over 12 corp of Chinese forces (including the entire Red army) surrendered at Sian a little over a week ago. Chinese forces have been in retreat toward Chunking.

However, supplies flowed out from Chunking just prior to the surrender and units in the south (east) suddely found themselves flush with supply. The Chinese counter-attacked in four battles around Changsa and drove the enemy back in every fight. Changsa for the first time since the first week of the war is free of siege. China command is not taking these recent victories for granted however. Rather than going on the offensive, forces are manuevering for better defensive positioning.

More than 12 Chinese corp will arrive at Chunking in under 20 days. At that point supplies will again become scarce.

5/27/42

Things are still moving slowly in the war, so I'm not going to post the CR. However, the allies are getting ready for two offensive operations, although they are relatively small

Forces are gathering at Cooktown for an airborne assualt on Thursday Is. Recon continues to show it to be unoccupied. The plan is for the 2nd USMC Para Btn to capture the base, followed by the 2nd DAF base force. All by air. I will move 1-2 sqns of Kittyhawks there to establish air control and air lift in supply. The immediate goal is to secure the base for the arrival of other engineering units. The long-term goal is to establish the base as a medium bomber base for the suppression of PM.

The following is a map of the other operation.

Image

2 battalions of the 2UK div and the 3rd Caribineers are closing on Japanese forces at Jameshedpur. The 16th UK Div is closing on the unit just north (west) of Calcutta. The goal of the operation is to drive Japanese forces back to Diamond Harbor and prepare for a siege.

It looks like after the near collapse in India it has stabalized and will be a long term battle of attrition to push he back out. I hope you get him out of Jameshedpur to secure that flank.

What amount of forces does he have commited to India (Infantry divisions/brigades, tank, engineer, etc)??

Any major reinforcement coming for you??

ny59giants, the attack at Jamshedpur looks like it might succeed, it probably will depend on his level of fortification. I have a major advantage in numbers of troops, now it will just be a matter of managing disruption fatigue and plotting a well coordinated attack.

I haven't done an exact count of my UK forces but off the top of my head here's the list

2 Full UK Divisions
1 UK Inf Bde
2 Arm Brigades + Carbineer light mech Bde
4 Indian Div/Bde
2 Aus Bde (redeployed almost full strength from Sing)
Most of the Burma army at about 1/3 strength. That's about 5 Brigades at 1/3 strength
3 Chinese Div belonging to SE Asia at about half strength still making their way to rearward bases to repair.
1 Dutch Rgt (redployed at full strength)

Not much of an Army to be sure. Engough to really bog down the Japanese though if I can keep my forces well supplied and behind forts.

All major bases have at least level 4 forts and many have level 4 AF. I have deployed my forces with at least a Bde at all major coastal bases. The idea being they wont stop an invasion but can seriously disrupt it. I have worked to keep the rail lines open for rapid response. The RN has been dedicated to maintaining a solid picket line so that Allied forces will get a day or two notice before any invasion.

The allies have a decided advantage of air power in India also, so my unit disruption levels are low while his can be quite high.

ALERT...

All UK forces went onto alert today. Over the past week or two subs have noticed considerable activity around Rangoon and Andaman Is. Today a Japanese carrier force was spotted about 300 miles west northwest of Andaman Is. The force was first detected by search planes and the presence of carriers was determined by SS KXII. B-17s and Wellingtons have been tasked to also patrol the area. The presence of IJN carriers is probably an indication of an impending invasion. However, my opponent is known for feinting prior to an invasion. Also, he has been known to try and raid shipping.

Task #1 for all air and naval forces is to determine the presence of transports. If an invasion is coming I predict it will be at the Southern Indian port of Trivandrum or at the Ceylon base of Tricomelee.

Yesterday Lexington and Formidable docked at Colombo and will joing forces with Illustrious.

Also, UK forces encircled the town of Jamshedpur and are preparing an assualt to take the city and cutt off Japans southern flank in India.

Stay tuned...

INVASION!

AP NEWS, Trimcomelee, Cyelon
June 5th, 1942

If there was ever any doubt in this reporters mind that God was on the side of the Allies, it was swept away today. For weeks the Indian peninsula has been covered with a blanket of monsoon rain. Yet, today, for the first day in weeks, the rains ceased and the clouds lifted. The British, American and Dutch pilots took to the skies and quickly spotted a large invasion fleet bearing down on quiet port of Tricomelee.

Upon spotting the incoming transports 2 Torpedo squadrons quickly took flight in their almost antiquated vildebeast biplanes to confront the invasion fleet, scoring 7 hits and sinking at least one of the Japanese transports. Score the first round to the brave defenders or Trimcomelee!

The invasion is afoot. Now the question is, is this THE invasion or merely a side show. My opponent has tremendous numbers of troops free to put into this invasion (at least 6 divisions as I see it). I suspect Tricomelee is just the opening round. His true target may yet be other bases on the west side of India. I will continue my bend, but don't break strategy. I can't afford to get my meger land units out of position.

Our house rule states that he cannot take both Bombay and Karachi, which would block further UK reinforcements, until he has taken the rest of the Indian peninsula. Still, I have the 5th UK Div still garrisoning Karachi.

Trimcomelee only has a light garrison of the Tricomelee base force, the 1st ISF base force and remnant of the 28th Indian Bde. I don't know if the 28th is really there or not as it was a victim of the transport bug and teleports back and forth between Trimcom and Karachi. Fort levels are at 6 and is not mined - the dutch ML operating in the Indian ocean was sunk during the first invasion of India.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/07/42

Just the higlights from today's AAR. To date 7-8 Jap ships have succumb to allied CD guns and bombers. So far, he has landed a Nav Guard unit, most of the 2nd Div, and an Eng Rgt. I'm sure their disruption is high considering the heavy gun fire from the defenders. He did finally bombard the landing site today with CA and CL. My Surface combat fleet is closing and should attack the beachhead tomorrow. If recon shows his BB fleet in the area, I will split my ships into multiple small TFs, hoping that at least some will escape his BBs. If its just CA/CL then I will keep the fleet combined.

I moved my carriers into engage his CV fleet, the timing would have been perfect, his DB and TB were damaged from their raid on Tricomalee, alas my opponent withdrew. Instead my TB and DB decided to attack an AK and an AP respectively. [8|] The weather has turned fowl again, meaning finding and engaging a TF at sea will be difficult.

Indeed Fabertong, but today went even worse for the IJN invasion.

I will post the AAR later but...

The RN, led by Resolution met the invading ships today at Trimcomalee. Although many had already unloaded their cargo, much carnage ensued.

Also, UK forces attacked Jamshedpur punching thier way through the outer ring of defences and achieving 1:1 odds.

Reinforcements landed today at Thursday Is and the allies should be able to attack and take the base next turn.

The following picture was taken at the start of the surface battle. The vast majority of the damage you see was caused by shore based guns and land based bombers.
