I always saw Faber as more the Pierce Brosnan type. [;)]
Me too..............I bear a striking resemblance to Pierce.......

Yes, the similarity is astonishing! [X(] [:D] [:'(]

I was up for the part of James Bond when Pierce left.....but they decided in the end that we looked too alike for audiences to tell us apart........

The b@stards!! However, i guess if you had someone look too much like the old actor, that COULD cause problems... but you in turn COULD have changed your name to Pierce Broznan, and the audience might not have even caught on.... [:D] [:'(]

I'm still thinking Danny DeVito.
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Just Imagine me tall, dark, and stunningly good looking........that's how I imagine me.......

24th Sept. 1943.......

I-9 hits a DD off Baker Is............causing moderate damege.....she in turn is sunk.......

I-7 is more or less sunk by ASW off Baker.........

I now have fewer than 20 operational subs.......

Due to bad attention to detail, 36 unescorted Betty 2s attack the Fleet at Makin.......12 Hellcats intercepted......and I lost 25 aircraft......and sunk a lone DE..........I'm hoping that Speedy will be sloppy and think that will stop any more airstikes....so next turn the Malolap air groups will go in.....

Speedy's subs still take a bite ......3 AKs and 2 APs hit today.....will lose all the AKs ....but the APs may make port.......

Pilots given leave.....forever....

Post by fabertong »

Sorry for the slow updates.....but Steven has started a new job which has taken a huge bite out of his time......and turns have rightly slowed as he pursues his path to wealth and statis..........

25th Sept 1943.......

Well in went the Malolap airgroups and they are no more......I think Speedy saw them coming and suckered me into launching them.......instead of the 12 Hellcats of last turn....there were 40 Hellcats/39 Corsairs/21 Wildcats and according to my excitable pilots at least 15 F-16s.........My 81 A6M3a ..... dead........my 27 Beety 2s.....dead...no hits......this is the Last time I will use the A6M3a as a frontline aircraft........a later airstrick lost a handfull more......the upshot is over 140.....70+exp. pilots gone.........

Lost anothe I boat off Tarawa......
Lost a pc on ASW duty..........torp'd by the sub she was hunting.......

Burma still being bombed nonstop...........but other than that, just another day in the war............

26th Sept. 1943.........

A slow day in the war as Speedy continues his build up on Makin and Abewhatever........

But his Sub. arm again had a good day sinking 3 APs and a ML.......I'm going to miss that ML........

Bruce,
With his subs he his hitting me very hard..........as of yet the economy is running fine with a surplus of oil and res. but I am running short on tankers due to his subs.......
I do lose on average 10 ships a week to his subs........or to put it another way 500+ships a year........

in my game i put highly experienced helens from chinase theater in crucial points in dei/PI /formoza/HI + lots of search planes
critical areas in dei are/ will be soon to dangerous for allied subs
my nells/betty's if are not busy elswhere are at min 20% nav search
they hit subs often enough
hunter killer groups based on new PC type work excellent
APDs + old type DDs can be used too
try to concentrate conwoys - this way you will be able to defend them well
pick sometimes weird routes - point somewhere in the ocean destination and homebase in HI
rotate HI destination point
attach one HK group to each main convoy

in 2nd half 43 i'm number of sunk allied subs is bigger than transports lost

Bruce.......just to clarify.....that's 500 ships hit....not nec. sunk.......

Speedy and I are playing 42A.......
We have played 16 months game time..........
I've lost a total of 310 ships..........of which around just over 1/2 are sub kills......

Sneer,
That's impressive.......I have all of my Sally and Helen groups flying ASW on my main convoy routes....they don't appear to be making a dent.......any suggestions as to hieght etc.........
Also what does your normal HK group consist of ....by House rules I'm only allowed 5 ships per ASW group......
All my troop convoys have a CVE attached, and my troop convoy losses are small......but I haven't enough to support all my support TFs........

i don't use CVE for convoys
6CVE i currently have means almost 200 additional cap over my carriers in decisive battle
helens are positioned at 3-4k feet alt and their exp is 80+
our ASW TF house rule let 8 ships but i rarely see more than 3 attacking so it maybe not as important and I have often 5-6 ships in HK group

during last 2 months i lost 1 small TK to subs and managed to sink 3 or 4 of them + damaged 1-2 next
allied player tries to keep 10+ subs on my shipping lines

try to usw W type ( not Wa) MSWs in HK groups if you feel you are short on escort
and leave Wa type harbour defence or convoy duty
i think you should have 50+ ships ( 10 groups) in HK groups and enough for convoys without using fleet DDs
there should not be a problem to gather 10 helens groups and similar amount of Floatplanes grooups or dinah recon type

and remember to randomize routes - my enemy's subs can't find my convoys outside of DEI and DEI is guarded well

For a long time I mostly only used DDs for hunting subs (in 6 ship TFs) and had good success. When the time begins where DDs are needed elsewhere I switched to 2 DDs and 4 PGs (or the new PCs coming up with a ASW value of 7!!!). Those TFs are nearly as good as ASW groups of only DDs. Most times the DDs make contact and the low experienced PCs (mostly around 50 exp.) also are running an attack.

Faber, in another thread I just read that AC on ASW should be 1000 or 2000ft. I have been running mine at 6000ft and have had no success.
