Help Creating Custom Schedules

Post by akcranker »

I'm sure this has been asked a billion times and I should know since I've been around these boards for a few years now.. but how do I create my own custom schedule?

I've created a league of purely just Alaskan teams and I want to switch the schedule from starting in April to starting in June and ending in July or August since our summers are so short. I'm kinda trying to replicate our local baseball league we have here.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm playing a 40 game season at the moment.

Also one other question.. how do I post my almanac to a website?

ak goto your league options in ps and export your schedule (theres an option there). Then open up the file with a text editor and check it out, its really simple to format the schedule. Creating it otoh is quite a challenege

Abev thanks for the tip. I have some new questions now. I exported the schedule and opened it up, I see how it sets up the games but I was wondering:

A) do I use the same schedule each year or do I have to modify it for each year.

B) How do I know which game is the Allstar game?

K I think I had a few other questions but I drew a blank.. so I post them later if I think of them.

Again thanks for your help.

A - You can use the same one. AFAIK puresim will still generate a new schedule each year. Just re-import during the off season.

B - Doesnt matter for the ASG. I dont think puresim recognizes an all star game other than shaun just sets the pspn all star report to come out during a specific time, so dont worry about it.

Creating a balanced schedule for you assn would be fairly simple to create by hand. If you want unbalanced it will get a bit tougher. If you think of the other questions let us know.

Okay I got another question. Can I add more games.. like out of the choices you have for schedules in puresim.. the lowest you have is 40 game schedule. Can I add 3 more games and have a 43 game schedule?

Well my first answer to that was no. Then I said maybe. Then I said lets check it out.

I hacked up one of my schedules to have 43 games. Since my assn is set to 162 games, it wont accept the schedule. Therefore, I would assume that your schedule needs to be exactly what you set up your schedule for.

A couple things for Shaun if you see this:
1- Doesnt look like theres any error handling for the import schedule. If I import a < 162 game schedule into my 162 game assn, nothing happens. No msg "You cant do this , bad schedule"

2- The other thing I wonder about is if you import a custom schedule, why cant PS just accept it at whatever it is with just a msg that says "45 game schedule imported". That way if you wanted a 45 gm schedule you knew it was in; if you wanted a 162 gm schedule, you knew your schedule was wrong.

If you import a custom schedule does PS care what size the schedule is? I guess the only other cconsideration is when playoffs start, but I would guess they start x days after the season as opposed to "Oct X".

So for you AK I think you are stuck with the standard scheds PS give you the option of, for now.

You can import schedules of any length if they are in OOTB csv format. For example, I have created short tournament schedules (round robin) with just 18 games per team. I have also created a format where you can play a seven game series between two teams (however, the minimum league size is four teams so I just put scrub teams in the other two slots and have them play just one game). As long as the number of teams scheduled in the csv file matches the number of teams in your league, it should import fine. However, note that in the csv format, the first line must contain a comment (starting with '#" sign). Also, a time must be appended to each game record in order for it to import properly, even though Puresim does not use the time field for anything.

Hope this helps,

I stand corrected. You CAN import a odd number schedule like 43 games. I was unsuccessful before because I was leaving out the "format=xx" at the top of the text file. It imports just fine. I havnt tested any games with it though.

They DO NOT necessarily have to be in the ootp csv format. They can be in the PS format too.

Hey Abev thanks for the help man. It took probably 45 mins of going through the entire schedule and changing the dates from April to June/July and then figuring out how to add the additional 24 games for the last 3 days of the season that I wanted to add but I got it all in and just ran it through a test season and it worked out beautifully.

The funny thing that I noticed as I went through the season was that the only interleague games that were on the schedule were in the last 3 days of the season that I added. So I may end up going through and editing the schedule but at least I know how to do it thanks to you.
