Decreasing free agent processing time

Post by drgenelmt »

Is there any advice on decreasing the amount of time it takes to run thru the free agent draft. It is taking me an average of 4-5 hours to move through all rounds of the free agent draft.

Yikes. What association config are you using, and what type of computer/processor specs do you have?

I have seen virus programs cause slowdowns and many can be configured to ignore files in a certain folder (e.g. the PureSim folder). In some cases if your computer is under-powered, using a smaller association configuration (like 8 teams or 10 teams) helps a lot.

Does it take a while to sim games, too?

I've just run into the same problem after running a Windows Update (Windows Genuine Authentication).  I'm still trying to see if I can fix the problem.  It is affecting my entire PC, not just Puresim.

Actually, it sims games rather quickly.
I originally thought that it waw running slow becasue my hard drive needed defragmenting, so I then reformatted my entire hard drive and then installed minimal programs, as well as PureSim again.

After two or three seasons, it started happening again.

I have a fairly new HP 2.0gHz processor with 1mb of RAM

The only times I notice bottleneck slowdowns is when the free agent rounds are running, ands also when trhe yearly almanacs are being written, say from 2006 to 2017, but I asuem that that function takes a while anyway.

I do notice that between draft rounds, each team evaluates approximately 25000 players (if I'm not mistaken). Is this normal? Is the program keeping players from previous drafts and free agency in memory?

2500 maybe? 25000 would be off the charts.

That's why I was asking.  I noticed smaller numbers before (2500, like you say) but the I noticed 25000+
The game locked up on me a while ago but I thought notning of it..perhpas that caused some problem.

Might want to use the compress assn option and send it to Shaun.  Check your Options menu via the Front Office screen and do that if you're interested.  That seems really whacked, especially on such a comp as yours.

I am running into a similar issue. It take several hours to run through the free agent draft for me as well. AMD 1.5 GHz with 768 mb ram.

Love the game! Love it!

Took me about 1 to 1.5 hours to get through FA... Pentium 2.2ghm, 1 Gig of ram
Hopefully Shaun can figure out a way to cut the time down some.

I've set a timer and find it takes 15 to 30 minutes for the free agent and almanac-building parts of the off-season and I thought that was awful slow. It got slower 10 years into the league because of all the players who haven't retired yet and all the new ones coming in.

Even at 15-30 minutes, I'm wondering if a future patch can shorter the number of weeks and rounds of free agency and if we can choose to upgrade the almanac only when we really want to look at it -- even waiting a few seasons to do this if we wanted to.

Note the alamanac will not be processed during unattended auto play so I'm not sure if that will help you or not.

I'll look into improving all this, but these times seem awfully slow.
