Variable initiative broken??

Post by Szilard »

Did it get broken somewhere along the way? I'm not seeing initiative ever flip over. As a test: change the old Normandy 44 scenario so the Germans go first. The turn order seems to stay fixed forever; think this is clearly a case where you'd expect to see a flip. Same with a few other scenarios I've quickly looked at.

I have variability switched on, of course.

Is this a hotseat or PBEM game? If so, see section 10.1, last paragraph, page 29 of the manual, as well as the Whatsnew file, Change History, Initial Release, item 55.

If not, then please provide a saved game file.

Hi!

I've seen initiative switch over quite a few times.

Usually, when I'm at my most vulnerable...[:@]

Is that with the latest patch and human vs PO?

Maybe there's something screwed up with my install.

Szilard,

Try Arracourt 44, from the Classic TOAW folder. You should almost always see an initiative switch on this one, on turn 2, as the US takes the initiative.

Nope, no switch on that one either. Are you seeing a switch? If so, I guess maybe it is a prob with my install.

Just to be precise, I'm playing with all advanced options on except sitrep, high supply and movies; no cheats; strong AI. I'm using nodelay/noupdate/nointro/nosound switches.

I've also tested the little Normandy 44 mod I mention in the other thread under ACOW 1.04. I get the expected initiative switching and also the expected attacks on the fleet.

Yes, I get a switch on Arracourt both POvPO, and human v PO. Very reliably on turn 2, the Americans gain the initiative in the flip-flop. Using Advanced Game Options On down until Air Staff Assistant, which begins the OFF choices. Only command line switch I'm using is the "toawlog" switch.

Try the reinstall and see if that helps. Good luck and good night.

OK, I've worked this out. If you start a scenario in Human vs Human/hotseat mode, seems you won't get any flip-flops, even if you then switch to PO vs PO or human vs PO mode. I guess this comes about via the change in the latest patch to turn off flip-flops for hotseat play.

Nice if this could be changed. Sometimes I want to start in hotseat mode - eg when I'm testing and there are theater options to set during a pre-battle ceasefire turn.

For me, I much prefer having SOME option to avoid the variable Init and the hotseat to AI mode is currently the only way. I sincerely hope that that last avenue of avoiding it is not closed off.

Fair enough. I can live with starting in PO vs PO mode and going to hotseat, to set TO's etc. Nice to have something a bit more elegant than that, but not a biggie now I've worked it out.
