Can someone explain how this happened?

Post by Rainbow7 »

This is part of the log from a game I recently watched. Notice that Ty Cobb grounded out, but then Ted Williams singled and Ty Cobb scores! This must be a bug. I'm patched to 1.19.

It looks ok to me. I believe the misleading part is the PBP indicates that Ty Cobb grounded out, but it was a fielder's choice, force out at 2nd (6-4) and Cobb would be safe at first.

Hope this helps and I hope I am reading it right - it's waaaay past my bedtime...

Oh, I see now.  Is that standard reporting?  I guess Ty Cobb wouldn't get scored with that hit?? So he in fact singled to first, and Joe Jackson (who was forced) was thrown out at second.

No he did not single. The at bat counts against his batting average the same as a out. The fielder chose to get the runner going to second rather than the hitter. Thus it is said that the batter reached on a fielders choice.
