COTA is such a huge step!

Post by jungelsj_slith »

So I finally got the chance to get COTA, and have been on my first scenario the last couple of days. So far, it's been fantastic fun. I have to admit that although I've bought all of the HTTR games, they haven't been able to keep my interest because of the pacing and UI.

COTA is such a fantastic leap forward with this stuff - I'm not sure what changed about the pacing, but playing at the regular speed feels perfect in that there are few lulls. Playing HTTR at normal speed, at times, threatened to put me to sleep - it seems like something has changed here. The addition of the buttons at the bottom have helped immensely as well - being able to cycle through information without memorizing all of the hot keys.

Anyway, I just want to say thanks for a great game. This feels like a huge step in the right direction. I know everyone here talks about mixed-mode movement and supply as being the big new features, but to me it was the simple playability changes that made a difference.

Same here.

The improved UI is the best I've seen in a wargame. Its a joy to play.

The UI is fine, but the realistic contest is the stunning aspect for me. This game is clearly a generation ahead of the contenders.
I’m surprised that it is not selling at a much higher volume ( I hope it has sold more than displayed at the “redirect count”. Perhaps within a few months multiple reviews will be posted at key sites which will greatly increase its exposure to interested players.

06 Maestro,

Welcome and I'm glad you are enjoying the game. Please tell your friends about our game and encourage them to buy it, especially those that play traditional turn based wargames. Thanks,

We could go on and on. For me the game excels in every area. I'm sure many will agree.

One other thing I like: no music! When the fighting is intense, I just hear bullets and shells and stuff. When it's night, I hear nothing. It sounds like war to me.

Hi guys,

Well, like Molotov billy I only got the game this week and its engine and immersiveness are in a totally new area for me.I worked my way through the excellent tutorial last night and even on that level found it a blast. The line of sight rules in particular with the mapping system means a plan is essential and the days of charging everything forward RTS style are thankfully history.

I am now off to tackle the introductory scenarios before I am "back to school" (at 41!) to take on the 2nd tutorial.

Take care guys

Ian
