Rice vs Beef - who's having who 4 dinner? - 1EyedJacks vs. Scott1964

Post by 1EyedJacks »

This is a joint AAR between 1EyedJacks as Japan and Scott1964 as the Allies. We’ve laid down a few modest house rules and agreed to talk any issues out.

In the interest of keeping things somewhat real I’ve limited my major strikes to Malaya, the Philippines, and Hawaii.

As this is a joint AAR I don’t expect either of us will get into strategy in too much detail unless/until the strategy becomes obvious.

So here’s the dirt on 12/7/41

Just wait until Pappy Boyington gets started. [:'(] At least you did not find the Boise. [:'(] At least I have an airforce to try and hit back. The trick is to find a willing and accepting home for my rag-tag navy and airforce, preferably not at the bottom of the ocean. [X(][X(][X(] POW being sunk was a bummer, at least Repulse got away. [8|]

Lucky for you, tonight it's just me

Any ship can be a minesweeper..once !! :)

So all of the normal bases have fallen and the insurance I sent to Wake added that base to my bag of goodies.

TF1 made a 2nd strike @ PH - will it make a 3rd? Stay tuned for further exciting adventure of the mighty KB.

I C a few enemy PT boats near Vigan but I'm really glad to see so few enemy subs found by my recon units[8D]

It must B kind of obvious that I'm going for fairly normal opening objectives. That doesn't mean that I'll continue down this path but for now... Enemy ships are sinking, toasts are being raised to the great red meatball, enemy land units are getting spanked, the saki is flowing and the girls sure do look pretty...[:D]

Now where is that thrice-be-damned Boise?[:D][:D][:D]

Again - not a single torpedo hit... And not a BB sunk. I feel robbed This must be a glitch in this turn

This doesn't look right and "IF" they are launching this main torpedoes at Pearl they should hit something besides the bottom of the harbor. I wish I was this lucky when I played you. [:D]

This result and the attack at Singapore with your Nell's should be posted in a separate thread and be prepared to send the saves to Matrix

Michael - I gave Scotty the secret code to activate the "cloaking device" on the Boise since I know you enjoy seeing that ship stop invasion forces all by itself.[&o][&o]

I see there is a task force heading in Tarakan's direction. Just maybe I should send the Boise out to intercept, or maybe I will send her to sink some shipping, or even hit somewhere unexpected. You will feel the Boise when she comes a calling. [:'(][:D]

I think you should bring your Boise to Tarakan - I've got some Bettys and Nells that would love to drop some "gifts" to the valient fighting men of the US Boise. We have these great flotation devices in the shape of yellow ducks - their the latest craze in Japan...[:D][:D]

Gee, if you can see my TFs then I guess that means the cloaking devices are no longer working? Damned Klingon crap - I knew we should have bought from the Romulans![:@]

Scott is right about my pilot pool dwindling fast. I'm now into Bruini on Borneo and have a unit in Alor Star. Bullets R starting to fly.

Hong Kong was reduced to Fort level 3 and my ground troops there are receiving air support from bombers.

In Manila I hit his port *again* - if Scott is gunna keep shipping there then I'm a gunna keep attacking his port [:D][:D][:D] I'm a little concerned tho in regards to the animations. I saw my Nells/Bettys dropping 800 pounders - I need to go back and check but I don't think 800 pounders R part of the normal ordenance. I think this is more of the problem with the Bettys/Nells that I was reading about. Not much I can do except wait for the new patch to come out that is supposed to fix this problem.

KB is steaming away from PH; I left that place a wreck. 4 days of air attacks from KB - I owned that base[:D][:D][:D] Yeah I know - Scott'll come back like a pit bull and take a bite outta me somewhere but man, I *owned* that base![:D][:D][:D]

From what I could see this turn @ Manila Scott lost:
ML Redstart
PG Cicali
PG Moth
PG Tutuila
SS Stingray
AP Basilia

A *lot* of damaged planes due to flack. I'm tweaking production to keep up with the flack losses. I have this same challenge in the Iron Storm mod I'm playing with Darren. I know the stock version of WITP is considered too bloody but I'm not sure this "fix" to that problem is any better. Oh well - typical ex-enlisted puke - I gotta gripe about something! [:D][:D][:D]

Lets see now.

Kates lost 91 so far, 78 of those to flak [X(]
Vals lost 44 total and 42 to flak [:D]
Nells lost 40 of those 32 to flak [:'(]
Bettys 17 lost and 13 to flak [:'(]

Now the real question is.........................

Where is the Boise?

Where is the Boise?

You know that name brings a bad taste to his mouth. Second is a place in the SRA called Ambonia. [:D]
Oh, yea, that was where he first met BBB. [&o]

Yeah I know, U ain't gunna let me live that Boise down 4 a while - [:)].

So on December 14th Tuguegarao in the PI falls. I'm still nailing the port of Manila - hard!
And I'm starting my push in Malaya. Scott has scattered his air groups all over the place and does not seem to be afraid to use them. Fortunately, his LBs, TBs, and DBs can't hit the side of a barn. That could change as they fly daily missions and increase their experience. I will try to do something about this. [;)]

In a night engagement the AKs Governor Wright and Sarangami went down to the Imperial Navy. Torpedoes are the sword of choice for Japan's light naval forces and the sailors are well trained in the art of night-time engagements.

Also down this turn were the DD Pillsbury, the SS Porpose, MSW Lark, the PC Napu, and the PG Oaha.

Little KB is ravaging the port of Manila this turn also as she steams underway to support actions taking place @ XXXXXXXXXXX.

As Scott points out above, Flack is brutal in this game - so much so that I am modifying my production upwards *again* to meet the needs of air losses.

This is a pretty cool game with a lot of units in locations that I'm not used to. I'm still finding toys to play with and am in the process of trying to map out a strategy for China - which looks like a bear with all of his units scattered about the board.

Hey Scott, Andrew Brown thinks there's a problem with the FBs and FFs not being updated properly. He is recommending to scrap the 2.6 game and wait for his 2.8 version that he expects to have out in a week or so.

What'cha think? Stop now while we are only a little over a week into the game?

The nasty S-36 takes down 2 of my MSWs off the coast of the Philippines - bummer.

And my AK Tenposan Maru sinks just north of Kwajalein from damage sustained during the Wake attack. I almost get her home and then glub-glub-glub - down 2 Davy Jones she goes...

Hong Kong looks pretty good tho - a D. Attack reduces fort to 2 and gives me a pretty decent 1:1 odds.

And San Fernando in the PI falls to the Imperial Forces of Japan. Scott is operating a few B-17s out of Clark but since they can't seem to hit anything (knock on wood) I've been concentrating on the port of Manila.

Little KB is supporting my invasion on the south side of Borneo. Big KB is slipping into Kwajalein for resupply and new pilots (a LOT of new pilots - sigh!).

Troops R still unloading @ Tarakan; an assault is emminent...[:D]

AK Vincent goes down and S-36 chalks up another of my MSWs...[:@]

Heavy bombing of Hong Kong, Georgetown, Kantuan, Manilla Port (again), Tavoy and Tavoy. Claudes and Petes make a surprise visit @ Tarakan and drop a few presents.
The sky is a-buzz with recon planes - they're freakin' everywhere!

PG Tulsa goes down @ Manilla.

A deliberate attack @ Hong Kong yields 3:1 odds. Hong Kong Fortress, the 1st AA Rgt HKSRA, and the 5th HAA Rgt, the 102 RN Base Force all surrender. Hong Kong is under new management.

Currently there is a heavy push in Malaya where Japanese troops have entered Georgetown (expect some heavy fighting there), the Philippines as troops make their wat towards Clark, and Borneo.

Due to the (pretty much standard) opening turn a lot of units are currently in deployment to their assigned theatres of operations. I consider it very fortunate that Japan was able to trash as many allied subs as we did @ Manilla. [:)]

Japan's war cabinet has decided operations need to push towards aquiring more resources (go figure [:D][:D]).

Whatever are the allies up to? Other than fall back and attempt to regroup against Imperial Japan's mighty forces, inquiring minds want to know!

ADM Yamato would REALLY like to find out where some of those allied CVs R... Subs R being dispatched near and far. [:'(]
