Manually deploying sonobuoys

Post by davefrey »

Can anyone tell me how to manually deploy sonobuoys? Better yet where is the documentation to view the various commands? Thanks.

see here for complete list of ANW Hotkeys, including sonobouy release keys..

http://mediawiki.advancedgaming.biz/index.php/Hotkeys

a/c must be at low or vlow (lowest capable a/c altitude) to release sonobouys, and must be at hover to deploy dipping sonar (helo), with sonar set to active in the sensor menu.

Just a small hint also, sonobouys can be "turned off" by selecting the bouy, then deselecting comms active in the sensor menu. They in fact then dissappear.

HotKey Action
, Drop Passive Sonobuoy
. Drop Active Sonobuoy

[ Drop Passive Sonobuoy [Most abundant available]
] Drop Active Sonobuoy [Most abundant available]

{ Drop Passive Sonobuoy [Least abundant available]
} Drop Active Sonobuoy [Least abundant available]

Don't forget to turn on the "Show Sonobuoys" option for the map you are using with [F8] function key! [;)]

In real life, sonobuoys can only be deployed from Very Low or Low altitude. However, the game apparently allows players to deploy sonobuoys from any altitude.

Another unfortunate game limitation is the inability to "turn off / drop communication" with any particular sonobuoy once it has been deployed. I've tried this with all Realism settings and the sonobuoys simply do not turn off and disappear even though this is stated as possible in the manual. The only time that I have found this to be a problem was when using aircraft that carry hundreds of sonobuoys, but can only monitor a smaller number of sonobuoys (90) at any given time. All I could do was wait for the batteries on the sonobuoys to exhaust themselves before I could deploy additional buoys.

Hey Hermann,

Thanks, I wasn't aware of these two problems, I tested, and made AGSI aware.

Thanks Hermann
