AAR - A World Divided teaser (completed)

Post by Timmeh »

Welcome to my Axis vrs AI teaser to GG's WaW A World Divided beta test. Some things shown or discussed may change as the guru's are still putting this puppy through its paces so please bear that in mind. Also please post comments/questions in the campanion thread in this forum so we can keep this one lean and easy with all the purdy screenies.

I chose the Axis and decided to play the regular full campaign with total war ( just so its easier and I dont look stooopid but you can play slight varients of the full campaign that are intended to give the AI a little nudge with either the Axis or Allies. And as I'm playing the axis I wont be able to show you the cool effect of the wallies having the choice to square off US vrs Russia should they cause both axis countries to surrender before fall46. but there is still lots to see : )

here is the scenario screen.
Then on to the German summer 39 turn.

Germany summer 39

Germany looks to Poland as the need for cheap new land grows. Germany decideds to abide by the secret 'partition agreement' its signed with Russia and will leave the Baltic States and Eastern Poland to the Russians to keep Russian War Readiness from increasing and with it Russian production[:-]

After Poland falls Germany decides to annex Denmark aswell, but waits for its ambassador in Yugoslavia to persuade them to like us more[;)] At a cost of 5 supply Germany attempts and is successful in brokering a trade agreement and is assured that (for this turn anyway) Yugo will lean towards the axis and send its resources all to them.

Side note: if you look at the right side you'll see the War Readiness bars for the Wallies, by attacking neutrals and the wallies themselves increases this bar so as to add an element of uncertainty as to when the Wallies will DOW the Axis.

To back up a little I'll show the poland attack and then the yugo screen in the next post, notice that yugo leans axis now instead of balanced so it will no longer split its resource harvest. All for Adolph...All for Adolph[:D]

look at the battle odds screen here and you'll see the germans have achieved a crucial new condition here. Because they have brought elements of tac air, inf armor, and arty and the defender hasn't they achieve 'Combined Arms Bonus' of +3 attack.

Germany ends its first phase by regrouping most of its units to address Frenchy and their silly outdated treaty. At this point I also address another new feature, Spys Signal Intelligence and Security. I wont delve too deep into the mechanics but basically it envolves spending supply to increase your chances of stealing technolgy advances that you trail in or revealing FOW with signal intelligence and of course Security to stop the other guys from doing it to you. The Germans spend 15 supply to increase security to 12 ( the Russians send 9 spys at germany to start so it should help reduce any tech thefts)

Japan summer 39

here is the starting set up for Japan, with the reworking or the naval game ships can now travel 5 move points at a cost of one so for 6 supply i can move my Cag and 3 BB's to punish the Chinese coastline.

another important battle element to mention now is supression or disruption points. What used to be hit or miss by some attacking units is now resolved with suppression points instead. After an intitial attack by 2 cags and a BB notice the suppression number in the Chinese units that were attacked, this will effect them in later attacks.

Japan then sends ground units in destroying the 6 militia at a cost of one damaged inf. Japan consolidates a defensive line and ends its move phase. With the limited production Japan starts with I pause several units to start tech upgrades instead, with the tech cap of one point per catagory until 41 its important to my stragegy to start heavy bomber land attack to destroy the Chinese factories and I want to tech subs up a bit to disrupt the wallies reinforcing Australia ( my main mid war objective ) I also que up 3 heavy bombers to reach 5 total.

the first turn now over notice how my spys got lucky and stole 1 point of research for heavy bombers, because the spy vrs security roll was successful in that one instance Japan gets a freebie cause she has at least one point invested and was behind who she tried to steal from.

Germany fall 39

Notice how Russia has assumed control of Poland and the Baltic States.

I decide against Norway at this point and will wait to attack the low countries next season to split France's defence for a spring attack. Germans redeploy enmasse in W.Germany.

Ending the movement phase notice how germany's leaning and pro neutrals send RP's and supply to the cause. Almost all of Germany's forces are poised to strike west.

Japan fall 39

also a quick turn, light bombers and cag hit rail but the heavy bomber misses the factory in chunking. Yamamoto moves his CV's north of wake and then some light unit and supply shuffles to finish the phase.

so ends the 30's as next turn a new decade will arrive, this shot shows the end turn summary for the wallies. Notice my spies have stolen intelligence data from the Wallies so i will be able to see his spy/security/signals values in the next turn and that will help take some of the guess work out of how much the AI is spending on this aspect of the game and I can react accordingly.

Germany winter 40

As noted last turn the Germans have revealed the Wallies intelligence data. I raise german sigint by 12 supply to 10 to increase my chances of revealing enemy units beyond regular spotting range. I decide to wait until spring to attack France as my inf evasion, armor attack and evasion are all one point away from a tech increase and the frenchies arn't goin anywhere!

again notice the war readiness ( WR ) on the right. my attacks on denmark and poland plus a random point or two a turn have been added. because my spies haven't revealed it I only get an estimate of what the wallies could be but I spied the actual Russian number this turn.

my ambassador in turkey has been recalled! if you noticed the number in brackets by the neutrals, its their volitilaty rating, the higher the number the easier they are swayed. Turkey is a tough nut to crack.

No image for the German end turn but all forces are mobilized in W.Germany for the French invasion next turn.
