Those were the words for the "Summon Kraut" spell...[;)]

LOL
"What did you read at university?"
"War Studies"
"War? Huh. What is it good for?"
"Absolutely nothing."

...mmmm, not wishing to be picky, but don't you always saddle a horse from behind ?

..ok, present sadle to horse, then up over the rump, move into position, taking care not to wrinkle the saddle cloth and tie/buckle girth to two fingers loose, if you tried from the front doesn't the head get in the way..

Well - I'm German and did not know how to translate that saying in a better way - in German it says 'Das Pferd von hinten aufzaeumen' - this does not exactly name the saddle and confers more to the 'Zaumzeug' (the leather stuff and the bite piece you put on the head/mouth of the horse). This is (usually) done before you put on the saddle - and of course - you can not do this while standing behind the horse [:D]
And of course - you can not put on the saddle while standing BEHIND the horse - only if you stand to the side of the horse (usually from the left side). So I basically thought my translation could be understood [8|]
Maybe you can give me the correct vocabulary for translating this saying - or can tell me an English saying which means the same [&:]

I think what Murx was trying to convey came across, despite it not making the cut as a perfect translation.
In fact, Murx, I believe the statement in English is really "the cart pulling the horse"-thereby implying that the purpose of something is unintentionally functioning as its principal means-or

it's all FUBAR...
-stuff is ass-end backwards.

..finally, after some days thought, the tail wagging the dog which is about the only way a comp program can develop..

..Zaumzeug is bridle in english btw, and no, saddle first, then bridle as the horse is attached by the head collar and rope, never by the reins, they snap too easily if the horse shies, unless of course the head band goes and they're a bugger to replace or repair..

OOps, yeah >.< ... haven't been out for a ride for about 4 years now. And memory is getting a bit fuzzy about the correct order (But isn't memory funny? As soon as I would start to ready a horse I would remember the correct order).
Of course first saddle then bridle!

..s'ok, i'm having to get used to a blanket and pad, no stirrups, and one rein on a levered bit, mind you only ponies so not far to fall..

..sitting to the trot is a new and painful experience, so i guess saddle maker is the next skill to learn

Haha [:D]
Well, I learned riding on bare horseback. Sitting to the trot is easy (tho painful at start) - but if you 'leicht traben' (light trot?) you will have so much more fun, err, pain. You raise up every other time with only the muscles in your upper legs - a group of muscles that one usually never uses that much in this way. (How often do you try to break coconuts between your upper legs while trying to raise yourself from a sitting position?)
