I don't suppose there's anybody available?

Post by mc3744 »

I don’t suppose there’s anybody available to pick up the fight? [&o]
I need a replacement opponent. Needless to say I need a Japanese opponent [:'(].
AB Map v3, 1.80.

It’s end of January ’43. The Japanese Empire is vast but in bad shape.
The score is approx. 25k Japan, 29k Allies.
Japan has lost most of his CV/CVL/CVE, while I still have all of mine.
I lost more BB’s (5-6), Japan only 2 but several are damaged.
I also lost hundreds of transports
The Allies have total control over the skies.

Burma is in British hands.
China is crumbling under the Japanese push.
Allied offensive from Timor towards Kendari and Java.
Southern New Guinea is Allied.
Japan owns most of the South and Central Pacific: Noumea, Efate, Canton, Midway.
Allied counter-offensive under way in the Aleutians.

Obviously (from the score and the amount of lost CVs) Japan stands no chances of winning the war or the game.
I’d like to find out if the Allies can be slowed down or if they can achieve auto-victory.
And clearly I’d like to enjoy - for once - Allied supremacy. [:D]

I enjoyed this game a lot because we’ve been fighting like crazy fiends everywhere: Burma, China, Timor, New Guinea, New Zealand, Central Pacific, Aleutians, …
And I would really like to see how it evolves.

If there’s anybody available I’m willing to provide with screenshots and more info.

I need a very experienced Jap player, otherwise there’s no chance for fun on either side.

One last warning (as if there weren’t enough! [:D]): my opponent believes (with some reason) that the Japs are jinxed in this game.

Please, make me happy [&o] [:D]

Well if you wanted to make this proposition any LESS attractive for the prospective IJN player I don't know how could you have done so [:D]

I love picking up other people's games when they leave (some of my most enjoyable games I took mid game after other people left). But this.... good luck finding a masachist to take the Japanese side in this game [:D]

You should have painted the IJN's situation in a rosier paint you know....

[:)]

You are quite right, but if I find anyone (which I strongly doubt [:(]), I want someone aware of the situation.

It makes no sense to attract someone under false pretenses. [;)]

It's an uphill game, the goal would be to turn disaster into "simple" defeat, draw would be an outstanding result. I wouldn't pick it up, I'm not tough enoug [;)]
But maybe someone out there is [:'(]

Btw, I like your avatar [:D][:D][:D][:D]

If anyone is interested in picking this game up, contact me about it.
I'll give you the complete info as to the Japanese position.
I wish I had the free time to continue the game, but I do not.

As an Allied newbie I have 1 huge question......

How did the Allies kill all those CVs and not lose any of their own?
To quote from Evans/Peattie`s {Kaigun}

political and strategic mistakes live forever". The authors were refering to Japan but the same could be said of the US misadventure in Iraq

And now the big boy...who is the Japanese player who bailed on you? Nothing worse than taking it up the arse as the Allied player for a year or more in this very pro Japanese game (in the early going anyway) only to have the Jap fold when it is time for the payback. Poorer gamesmanship can not be imagined! I think we all should know whenever this happens so that A) We won't get screwed like you did and B) maybe by doing this players who bail will get a reputation for it and therefore will be incapable of finding PBEM players.

Probably Gregg will have a different opinion as to why and how he lost most of his carriers. And I'll leave to him to explain it [:)]
Anyway the exact capital ship losses so far are:
Japs: 6 CV, 4 CVL, 4 CVE, 3 BB, 8 CA, 13 CL
Allies: 5 BB, 2 CA, 7 CL

IMHO Jap carriers have been sunk for two main reasons:
1) Gregg committed them piecemeal, especially the light ones. As supporting units to the bombardment and landing TFs, but once in range of my airfields the light CAP could not withstand the Allied LBA power. Many light carriers have been lost around Timor and the Aleutians.
2) Overconfidence. Due to the capture of Canton and Noumea, my lifeline to Australia and New Zealand ran through Bora Bora and Auckland. Gregg has been constantly ambushing my transports (with very good success: 455 ships sunk! In 14 months!!) on their route back and forth.
He left his carriers out nearby New Zealand too long, too far from home and once too many. After some successful attacks on my convoys, I ambushed his main carrier group with two carrier TFs of 3 US CVs each, nearby my coastline. My damaged CVs could find shelter at Auckland, his had to fight their way back home. They didn’t make it.

I don’t remember every single sinking, we’ve been at it for over one year, but according to my recollections this is the main reason of the actual carrier situation.
Two of my CVs were indeed badly damaged (60-80 sys dmg) and are just finishing repairs right now, but they made it!

Hence some good luck, some bad calls. As usual in this game. [:)]

Congratulations!

And thanks for the answer.....

Yes, I can see the CVEs are rather vulnerable unless in a mass (Beauforts can
be rather nasty with that torpedo).......

Nice ambush of his KB!

No way! [:-] I suck with the Japs ... and I already had a bad time with the Allies [:'(]

... I'll think about it. Anyway it has to be after the summer holidays, as you usually disappear in August [;)]

And knowing you, I know you'll do an AAR, hence I'll have to reciprocate. Which implies more time to dedicate. Uhmm, we'll see [;)]

Hey Ron,

Somehow I missed you post. [:(] Sorry.

Yes you are right ... in general.
In this case I have to say that Gregg has been a very correct and nice opponent (if you forget the fact the he surrendered [:'(]). I really enjoyed playing with him.

Truth be told it's not been the usual tough year for the Allies. I started having fun in summer '42 already. Hence we pretty much enjoyed the same time.
Overall it's been fair. I just really want to see what's next and I obviously enjoy it more in a game that I'm winning [:D]

Cheers
