British gun calibers?

Post by Belaja smert »

Hi,

Could someone please clarify these odd caliber sizes in British guns Image

I mean these cryptic 4, 6 ,17 and 25lb markings. I guess these stand for the weight of the projectile but what are the calibers in millimeters?

2 Pounder = 40mm
6 Pounder = 57mm
17 Pounder = 76.2mm
25 Pounder = 87.6mm

had'nt seen refrence to a 'four pounder' but at a guess i'd say it would be around a 45mm
