Infantry in Panzer Command?

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

1) Boy they move slowly. Once I dismounted about halfway through the game I think they only moved about two inches.

Which movement command do you use? "Rush" generally does the trick.

Forgot about CM habits when you play. This is a completly different engine [;)]

From Erik posts, it looks a little as if Infantry is modelled as an unarmored vehicle, with some specificities though... not very good modelling but hey say they didn't focus on it.
I have a problem with the "To Hit" necessary for infantry fire : it's really unrealistic, for MG fire for example it's totally bad. What was important was volume of fire plus dispersion, getting enemies to be pinned, then neutralized, and CM as well as ASL use this model..
Can't understand why a poorer model has been designed ?

Thats my thought also. While I can understand the focus on armor, at this scale, infantry and manned guns were still important.

I don't understand the 'to hit' effect. You mean to say that an infantry unit shooting at another has a 'to hit' attempt? If so, that really bad modeling.

Thanks all, we're reading your feedback. As a side note, if you want to try infantry without the 'to hit' you can modify their accuracy to be 1 across the board or close to it. The manual explains how to do this for anyone who's interested in seeing what effect it has.

Infantry definetly fill their niche in this game. They are quite stubborn in buildings and woods. Get pinned easily in the open and fall apart. The bounding movement command works very well with infantry. Mounting and dismounting is smooth. Nothing anamolous about that.

Don't ignore them in battle. I got bottle necked between 2 occupied buildings and paid the price. Infantry are deadly to tanks at close range. Again if they are attacking from cover. I think they are well balanced in the game. It works.

Lol I see tooooooo many people thinking and expecting this to be a CM clone. About the only comparison to CM that I see is lookslike. After that this game is its own game all it's own. Get out of the it should be like CM mode guys.
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

So what does that do? Make most 'firings' an auto-hit?

I don't remember now but I think it was probably my fault. I suspect they were Suppressed but I didn't notice. All in all the infantry 'feel' seems fine so far once you get the hang of it. Although they are generally slow but yes Rush does light a bit of a fire under them. [;)]

Oh, I had one weird glitch. I noticed a squad KNEELING (or maybe at an angle?)! Once I clicked off they lied down and were dead. That's the first and only time I've seen that.

We chased down a few such bugs during beta testing. I think there may be still one rare instance where this can occur (casualties not properly lying down) but we haven't been able to track it down yet.

Infantry are clearly undermodelled and underpowered compared with RL!

The following video demonstrates this quite nicely

Theortically the average walking/marching speed over good going is about 3mph. That translates to 4800m an hour or about 100m in 80 seconds. Not so good going would be about 75-80m in 80 seconds. Of course looking for cover. enemies and/or firing would slow that down.

Guys I was joking [;)]

You will need to see the video in the above link "Udi vs Tiger" to see why. Just press play when it comes up, it doesn't autoload for some reason, at least not on my machine.

Great movie by the way.

I'll take one russian Udi over an entire Panzer divison any day!

Hilarious video. Thanks, I quite enjoyed that. Loved the look on Udi's face as he jumped out the window just as the Tiger fired into it. Thinking about an "Udi" unit for Panzer Command.... [;)]

I take it I can't mount infantry during placement.  I've tried.  I can mount in turn 1.

That's correct - the Mount command is only available during normal Orders. Position the infantry where you want them during placement, then mount up on Turn 1.
