Some sad news

Post by ChezDaJez »

My daughter mistakenly sent out a mass email using my address book to solicit donations for the American Cancer Walk. TristanJohn was one of those it was sent to.

His wife, Katie replied saying that TristanJohn had died. She gave no details.

TJ and I had many go-rounds on this forum over this and that, most notably the Wildcat vs Zero and Iowa vs Yamato debates. And while our debates often got quite heated, I still respected him as a person and found him quite knowledgeable on many WWII subjects.

My sympathies are with his family. May he rest in peace.

Chez

P.S. If you were one of those that received the request for donation, please ignore it. It was meant for family. Sorry.

Indeed.

My sympathies also. Despite a difference of opinion on certain topics. He was still a member of this great community and i'm sorry to hear of his passing.

A bright fellow, as I recall...and opinionated, of course, like so many here...

My humble prayers and condolences to those who knew him as much more than an internet moniker.

Hi, I hope this is not true. Are you certain you had the correct email. Tristanjohn (means Tris and John) perhaps Tris is a pet name for Katie. TJ last posts I am aware of were on ACW forum in April of 06 (long after he stopped posting here)(over a year)

No, I'm positive. The email was from Katie Schuler, Tristan's estranged wife. I've included the text of her message here.

Dear Steve -

I (his estranged wife) am writing to let you know that Tris has died. If you wish, you can contact me at sdewitz@mchsi.com. In any event, thanks for being Tris's friend. I know that he enjoyed running simulations with you.

Katie

Just recieved this message for Katie...
Thanks, Steve, for your condolences. I know that you (or your wife?) is
running in a cancer fundraiser. How can I make a pledge in Tris's memory for
this event?

Thank you for giving Tris a run for his money on WitP!

Katie

It would seem that he had some form of cancer.

Hi, well then fair winds and following seas. We'll all be there before too long. A  comrade is a person you travel with and go through hardship with. Not always a person you agree 100 percent with. I have been missing him and now will miss him forever.
He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again.

Farewell friend and bon voyage.
The world has never seen a more impressive demonstration of the influence of sea power upon history. Those far distant, storm-beaten ships, upon which the Grand Army never looked, stood between it and the dominion of the world. -- Alfred Thayer Mahan
