Good MP beginner scenarios.

Post by EagleMountainDK »

Hi guys, I'm one of the old LOK/KEE users of Harpoon 3 and I'm still sitting on the fence. I can't really decide if I'm going to take the jump right now. But a friend of mine and I will have a LAN weekend in a couple of weeks and I thought of us buying H3: ANW so we could try out some MP.....

I'm pretty sure we will be playing some USSR vs. US in the 1980, but the scenarios has to be 1) manageble i.e. not to much for a couple of MP noobs and 2) both players should have something to do, i.e. using 30 mins just sailing before first contact is a no-no.

I really don't care which DB the scenario uses, since we will be using Jones Generic MOD enabler so we can swap DB and scenarioes in and out.

So gentlemen, help us out and kick me over the fence.... [:D] (Not sure about my friend though [8|])

Hmmm was surfing around and saw that changing DB's in the HP3: ANW is pretty easy, so it will make it even easier [8D] (Thanx Bundy, for the great walkthrough at Harpooner's Point).

Lone Wolf - one diesel vs. ASW group. Choose either side. One of the most popular, ever.

Incoming Mail - Opposed convoy transit Choose either side.

First Blood - Operation Dreamland. Need I say more? 1hr. duration

Power Sweep Cold War SSN vs. SSN

Suomenlinna - Russia vs. Finland in the opening act of a war. Only a few hours duration

All of these scenarios require the PlayersDB

There are some good original games that come with ANW, too.

You can try:

Dawn Patrol

End Run

Big Bash

Chaperones

Women and Children First

Some other basic scenarios you could try are:

Another Day In The Med Convoy scen

Block ASW Exercise

The Fighting 25th ASuW Scen

Midatlantic Blues ASW scen

All of these scenarios require the DB2k

Let us know if you want bigger scens to try, if you would like to host a server, or, maybe join someone else on theirs [8D]

Just post a message and we can try to join you or you can try to join us. Good luck!

Hi Cougar,

ANWDB is an overhauled version of the original H3 database. The included scenarios are intended to emphasize balance and therefore compatibility with multiplayer. I'll leave any other recommendations to the community as they know their work best.

As for switching databases I have not read the post at Harpooner's Point but the absolute reference to the new database file structure is here:

http://mediawiki.advancedgaming.biz/ind ... ganization

We moved things around to make it as easy as possible to install and use the community's work. Also, the H3 Launcher, which is included with H3 ANW, will switch between databases with just selecting a drop down menu if the database is installed using this new structure. I'll take this oportunity to make a suggestion to the db makers to supply the databases with the new structure. I'm sure some already have.

Ok I did it....have just bought the game.

One questions though.... when launching single player a DOS window appears telling me that Harpoon tried to validate my serial number. Does this mean that I it connetcs to Matrix and I therefore have to be online when playing?

Hello Cougars,

S/N validation works offline, so you don't need an internet connection to play Harpoon 3 ANW in single player mode.

Cheers,

Although I hate to say it as during development the guys and I must have played it a million times.. Dawn Patrol is still one of the best beginner MP scenarios.  You can find it in the Original Harpoon scenario set Dale developed an updated version with the ANW db.
