Can't install patch 1.10

I bought CoG from EB last week
COG installed out of the box OK and accepted the serial number.
I downloaded the 1.10 patch today but it won't accept my serial number.
I'll happily mail that serial number to a Matrix email address but won't post it here (for obvious reasons)

Newer retail versions of COG are already using version 1.2.25 and so won't be compatible with older patches.  It should say the version number in small green letters in the lower right hand corner of the loading screen (the one with Napoleon's maxims.)  If you do have 1.0, then the serial numbers should be working, but I'll have to let Matrix answer questions about that, since West. Civ. doesn't have much to do with the intsaller/serial numbers.

That's correct - chances are you are already updated beyond 1.10 and using one of the new serial numbers that didn't exist when the 1.10 patch was created. Check your version number as Eric suggested and let us know what it says.
