Question regarding the original BTR

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Question regarding the original BTR

Post by AFIntel »

Howdy,

I know this forum is for the new BTR, but I have a question regarding the original game and it doesn't seem like anyone visits the old BTR forum anymore...

For a PBEM campaign, is there a way to extract information from the saved game files? For instance, can I get a data dump that tells me what units were tasked for missions on that day?

Doesn't the data file that is e-mailed have this type of data embedded? If so, there must be some way to break it out. As they saying goes, "If they can put a man on the moon..." [:D]

Yes, that info is there. Yes it can be extracted. I had a mission review system built into the editor toward the end, but there was no easy way of stopping the allied player from looking at the axis disposition, so I never let the editor look at PBEM or Hotseat multi-player files, except my private test versions.

I always wanted to do it, I just never came up with a good way to do it...

it has not been kept up to date, and was hacked a while back and we lost a lot of old info

but over all, there is a lot of good info on the game

and you may see some of the people you see around here, there

it was a great site, back in the day

oh, there is a ton of good stuff in there

don't know if all of my old plans are still there or not, but I used to explain the different raid types and plans I used when I plotted my turns

and we had others telling what and how they did stuff

and the best part, is they nobody thinks the same way, so how I would try to handle something, 5 other people would do it another way, and then when you get all 6 points of view on how to do the same thing, you can pick which works best with the way you play

it really was a good board

I am also really hopeing that this forum will take off in the same direction, once everybody has the game to play

right now, we not really doing any talking about playing, just info and what if

I really wonder if the MED is going to be such a backwater in most peoples games now

I think the Axis player is going to dread even looking at it, and the Allied player is going have a ball down there

To be honest i must admit that i'm actually focussing on other games (War In The Pacific and War Plan Orange) in the waiting of the improved version aka " Eagle Day to the Bombing of the Reich".

HS,

I have no doubt that the focus of the board will change with release. That is the pattern on most of the Matrix Forums I have seem develop.

Roger

that is one of the reasons I was really hopeing that if the game was to be redone, it would be Matrix to do it, they will support it, and later fix or add stuff to it when they can (which, since I am part of it, I know it will be)

Can you develop these plans once again here please? It would be good to learn from a grognard.

PS: Is the BTR editor still available? Does it work for Bob?

Not really - not for any good reason mind you - I only offered the latest editor via my own forums to track users. I got such a pathetic reception that when the site went down due to a microsoft error I decided not to bother repairing the site.

Then Matrix came along and offered me a golden opportunity, so I've focussed in a completely different direction now.

No, it never worked on BOB. It was my intention, I just never got there.

Ok, no problem about letting you tracking myself, so, since i only want to use to test "what if" situation, would you mind to send me your editor?

well, once we are able to release this monster and take a little break, I am sure we will be able to start posting ideas and tips again

hopefully shortly, we can start up a little AAR type deal to tell how the game is running during the tests
