Visual Conditions

Post by darknite »

In Harp 3 ANW how exactly do you know what the visual conditions are for a given unit? Yes, I know the Zulu time but do I need to consult an almanac to determine when dawn and dusk are?

Hit the '5' key on your numpad and then click on the map somewhere. Some information about that location will be displayed in the message window including light conditions. Additionally the map-options will allow you to see weather information.

Cheers,

If you toggle range/bearing on/off (Setting Pull down menu) it'll give you the current local weather report of where you are clicking as well as light conditions (dawn/daylight/twilight/dark or something like that). You will need to consult an almanac or something else to determine when darkness will occur etc. IIRC the map the Harpoon used to come with used to have time zone markers. Was a pretty handy reference.

1) Ensure that NumLock is OFF
2) Toggle '5' from the keypad. This activates/de-activates your range/bearing function.

Now, wherever you click on the map, you can see the local weather conditions/water depth. In Harpoon Classic, you could only see the weather conditions over a specific unit with the Cntl+W function. Now, you can see the weather conditions at any point on the map at any time regardless if any unit is in position to report the weather correctly. Opinions are varied on having an omniscient weatherman. [;)]

Also, the upcoming patch will supposedly fix the way the Harpoon world turns. Presently, the sun rises in the West and sets in the East. [:D]

You might have to do just that.

I did a bit of testing and the dawn / dusk times vary according to latitude and season. For example, in the high arctic, there are periods of darkness for months on end. This depends on the time of the year. So, it does look as though you need to consult a reference source for exact times of dawn / dusk.

Those maps are going to come in very handy once the Harpoon world gets fixed so that the sun rises in the East to set in the West.

However, there really are some folks who believe that the world rotates in the other direction. [:D]
