Old School Football Game - NOT GAME RLT'D!

Hey guys...

In another thread, dreamtheatrevt got me thinking about an OLD table-top football game that kids used to play (we're talking the Sixties here). You'd plug it into the wall, and it had a vibrating surface that moved the plastic player pieces around the field. I have no idea what it's called.

I wouldn't mind searching for this on eBay, and with the knowledge base of this crew here, I'm sure someone remembers it.

Yeah! While I've never got the players to do anything other than spin in circles and fall down, I've seen people play good games on them as well. There was something on page 2 of ESPN.com a while ago about the superbowl of electric football. I'd like to see those games. I'll try to dig up the link later.

oh yes electic football , remember that well , use to have several teams . Alas don`t have game anymore but think i have some of players some where .

Ah, the memories. I have no idea what it was called, but I had one of those. The version I had also had a quarterback that could throw the ball. The figure for the quarterback was probably 3 times the size of the regular players and had a spring-loadeded arm. If you wanted to pass the ball (i.e. the magnet), you put it in the arm of hand of the quarterback, pulled the arm, let it go and then hoped the ball somehow hit and stuck to the base of one of your receivers.

I believe it was Tudor True Action Electric Football. Before the plastic players with nylon strips on the bottom that allowed them to move, all the players were metal, just like the kicker/passer in the earlier plastice player versions. In earlier versions (metal & plastic) the football was made of felt or cotton.

Yeah, I remember electric football.  Actually, the company that made the game, Tudor, was bought out in the 90's and was reborn into Miggle Toys.  Miggle brought it out of almost extinction and made it popular amongst the baby boomer generation (the guys who grew up in the 50's and 60's).  Miggle sponsors a National Super Bowl every year from players across the nation.  Check out www.miggle.com to see how the game has evolved.
 
p.s. - I'm not really trying to promote electric football, but it has moved from what was perceived as little plastic guys moving in circles.  Now you can "tweak" the bases and almost make the players move to where you want them.

Okay, so my wife already rolls her eyes and shakes her head everytime I have a nostalgia moment and get some entertainment anachronism I really don't need just to play a few times.

My big question is, how much noise did the damn thing make... It had a vibrating surface and we're talking 50's and 60's technology. If it was pretty quiet and just kinda hummed, I might go out and bid on one, as I see that they are actually up for auction on eBay. But if it sounds like a clothes dryer filled with loose change, my wife is gonna find something heavy in the house to throw at me.

If you're really interested in buying an electric football game, I suggest to go to the Miggle site and join the forum there.  From there, you can get a lot of tips on how to buy a board, buy players, etc.  I suggest what is called a "620" board.  That is the standard board that guys seem to be using.
 
And yeah, the board will make some noise, but you can tweak it so the vibration isn't so loud.
 
Be cautious when you buy on ebay.  There are some sellers out there who out to scheme you.

I had a look at the Miggle site, and it's a hell of a lot more attractive than the antiques I was finding on eBay.

... although I'm not sure I'd wanna spend $120 US on a Vibrating Board. I just don't see myself getting that much use out of it.

I'd probably buy the $30 set, and take that to work. There are a number of nutjobs like me who'd be into making some kind of Office League. Just like, somehow, I've got a CFL office pool happening... and I'm up right now, at 12:24am on a Wednesday morning, filling in the roster for the Saskatchewan Roughriders into Maximum-Football... I'm football obsessed. Man, I need help.

I've heard about you guys (or guy) I don't know if you're a one-man operation. I've visited your website, but man how do you get around there? There seems to be a lot of broken links. Are you still making figures? And weren't you making something for Maximum Football? Inquiring minds want to know.

as I said in my last post, the website is GOING UP Friday, so Im
not sure where you surfed but I can probably predict a dysfunctional site
since I took a lot of it down,to reduce piracy,  and have switched hosting companies since the last site was up, Yes Im a one man operation. Sales, Marketing, Production

I was working on something for Max foot, and that work is still viable, (the unis), ratings, etc, but I had to hold off when the PDS underwent overhaul, (Which I just opened yesterday and love now) but this is also the busy semi pro season, and I was coaching 3 teams this summer, Skagit Valley Lightning, King County Jaguars (6-0) and West Sound Saints (4-2) that and I broke my arm QBing in the first Jaguar game, so that put a slight kink in things, 2 weeks left in the season, then playoffs, then I can take a break and get back on the cpu, most of my time is eaten not with football but with travel, as these 3 teams are  each a minimum of 50 mi from my house and 200 mi round trip.

Tudor Electric Football. The metal surface and the players which you could configure to move in a direction on the vibrating surface. I used to have those as a kid with the previous year's Super Bowl teams. They stopped making them in any abundance in the late 70s if I recall correctly.

LOL Tudor was the main supplier for electric football. When I was very young I had the Gotham Version; the football had a magnet in it. I think their passer was better then Tudors. He was some kind of springboard thing and was easier to control.
