MLB logos

Post by kurtie »

I'm using logos from http://www.sportslogos.net/league.php?l=53
which are awesome, but when I set the team logo in the game, some
of them show as just the logo, and some of them have the logo in a
white box.

Anyone know how I can get just the logo for all of these? I'm familiar
with Paint & Imaging, and can change the background, but don't know
how to completely eliminate it.

Thanks,
KUrt

You need to use Irfanview and save it as a GIF file with the transparency set to the color of the background. Now here's the thing - most of those images have white as a background, so if you set white as a transparent color, then all the white in the logo will not show.

What you do is fill in that background color with rgb color 0,255,0 - that is the neon green color that is often used as a transparent color and isn't used in the logos themselves. So dump that color into the white background. Note that you'll have to tidy up the pixels on the edge of the logo itself. Then save as I said above. In Irfanview, there is a save option for GIF files that asks if you want to save a particular color in the image in question, and you do so by clicking on the neon green background. And then it is done.

Takes some steps and a little bit of learning, but once you do it a few times, you'll get a routine. Then it just takes some effort.

Trust me, logos without the visible background color look awesome.

Yeah, but if you don't get the edges just right, they look sloppy.  That's why I generally don't take the time to make transparent versions...

Great primer though, exactly what I do...

Thanks, guys!  I thought for sure I had Irfanview installed, but maybe I forgot
to reinstall it when I migrated to my new laptop.

I used MS-Paint to create a custom color (0,255,0) and used it to "fill" the
background.  Then I used MS Photo Editor to set the transparency color to the
(0,255,0) background.  Worked great!
