RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Well, Catalinas have a search range of 16, so you will never have KB popping from nowhere and catching you with the pants down. At least you have one day of warning.
There are several things that I like of RHS, but I think that the Allied position is in fact stronger.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
OK Aztez I am sure you are aware oif this trick but just in case.
5 Allied Fighter Sqns on West Coast all with P36's all with 18 - 24 of them withdraw 4 Sqns into the 5th making it have 100+ fighters and then upgrade (or downgrade the 5th to something else) all P36's go to the pool and can be used to refill frontline sqns.
You will need every trick in the book to keep your fighter sqns strong so just making sure you are aware of this one.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Andy: That would be a neat trick to bolster my fighter pools. Unfortunately the most US fighters I have are Lancers. There is actually some 50 aircraft in pool so that suggestion you had is good but at the moment I'am unable to do it. [:(]
Those BB's I lost are going to hurt me dearly. (only "bright" side is that they would all have doomed anyway in harbour at Pearl)
The fighter pool is not the only problem though. I mean the bombers are even worse off. I only got some 17 B17E's in the pool. No 2E bombers nor any Beauforts either. Basically I'am stuck with fighters I have (No way to upgrade them nor downgrade them) nor is there are chance to anything with bombers either! [8|][:(]
I have turned off replacements on squadrons that are not necessary. Also since he is going to on map training in empty bases I have put some of the bombers on supply runs. There is no other way to increase their skills.
I have looked at the reinforcements. Since it seems that those BB's are gone for good. I will receive 4 US BB's within next 500 days!!! That is not much to force to build any defense nor any offense.
This means additionally that he will have the total control of skies and seas to himself!!!
I'am actually somewhat reluctant to engage my Royal Navy ships WHEN the battle at India begins. It is propably going to suicide naval action.
Next turn is in here is the brief description what has happened:
15th of December 1941
It was not a good turn. (Suprise, Suprise)
Lets start with news from Central Pacific. First off Japanese forces now have captured Midway! This is a really bad news for me. Also Lihue is in enemy hands now. I have ordered an bombardment run againts that base next turn. Otherwise the normal carnage has continued due east from Hawaji. How long can just be sailing with his CV Force!!!
Ground combat at Midway Island [USA]
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 20263 troops, 133 guns, 85 vehicles, Assault Value = 386
Defending force 2856 troops, 61 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 32
Japanese max assault: 716 - adjusted assault: 503
Allied max defense: 16 - adjusted defense: 10
Japanese assault odds: 50 to 1 (fort level 1)
Japanese forces CAPTURE Midway Island [USA] base !!!
Allied aircraft
no flights
Allied aircraft losses
PBY-5 Catalina: 5 destroyed
Japanese ground losses:
453 casualties reported
Guns lost 8
Vehicles lost 4
Allied ground losses:
3579 casualties reported
Guns lost 71
Vehicles lost 1
I have decieded to move even more troops to SEAC from WC. Hopefully I can deploy these units in time. Additionally I have moved Chinese bombers out of China. I do not want these planes to be massacred there.
Nemo is still bombing resource centers at Southern China. There is nothing I can do.
All of RAF fighters and bombers are now at Karachi. There they will gather strenght before the "Alamo" of India begins.
Palembang is now under enemy infantry attack. This base will be lost next turn.
Dutch Airforce has again been VERY ineffective with naval strikes. These guys just don't seem hit anything! [>:]
The remaining Dutch Navy has now been ordered to sail towards Melbourne. There is too much enemy LBA bombers around DEI. (These ships would have been sacrificed for nothing)
Nemo has pretty much massacred 2/3 of merchant ships fleeing through DEI and Philippines. (He knew that this was the only escape route so he put Mini KB there along with the fact that he has control of Kendari, Davao, Jolo, etc. That spells disaster to allied player)
Rob mentioned those extra CVL's Japanese! I don't know how many of them he got but that is bad news! [8|]
To put it blunt he owns seas and skies. I do not have anything to fight againts those Zeke's. They are invincible. Also those Japanese bomber pilots propably can hit naval targets even eyes closed! [8D]

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
First thing and the most important thing to do now is try to build up an aircraft pools. With no capable fighters and pretty non existant bombers this war is doomed.
So I have withdrawn most of the RAF assets to Karachi. I think Nemo is obsessed with India due to the fact that he was unable to conquer Karachi.
What to then...
a) Withraw every capable fighter and bomber to Karachi. He will do an invasion and to be honest it would be "gamey" if he chooses to land in Northern India bypassing the Southern parts.
b) Turn off replacements from as many of the fighters I can.
c) Withdraw most of the Chinese airforce to India too.
d) Send more troops to India via PP from WC.
e) I'am withdrawin fuel from Southern India to Karachi. He cannot have free supply depots there once he comes.
This all that can be done. I haven't decieded whether to commit Royal Navy or whether it is better off to leave them to Aden. That decision has not been made yet.
We disagree with Nemo in several issues:
a) Fighter numbers and bombers: He is saying that I will receive 20% more than in a stock! Yeah, but since I cannot upgrade any British and Dutch planes those are done. Actually what I will be receiving are fighters that will be eaten up by those Zeke's and good knows what kind of "german" fighter models now in Japanese hands.
b) Bomber reinforcements: I do not know where he gets an idea that I can ALREADY upgrade plenty of my bombers to Beauforts and B25's. That is not true at all. As said there are just 17 B17E's in pool. None of my squadrons can upgrade to B25's NOR Beauforts. He is stating that I can him difficulties at DEI with those "phantom" aircraft.
Also he thinks I can send more bombers to frontlines from WC. Well as things stand now that is an suicide too. He will just kill squadron by squadron with his airforce. Why on earth would I send more bombers in frontlines when I cannot even support the one I got in safety!!! That is lunacy.
c) Nemo also seems to think that I can move more troops via ships to NZ, OZ and it seems even DEI. Impossible, there is no transport shipping available nor is the any troops to be shipped without dangering the home bases. All that I can do and it is actually wise to do is to move troops SEAC via PP.
Even those troops reinforcements might not arrive in time due to the Malaya "fiasco" at hand. 60 days is a lot of turns + shipping.
d) Nemo thinks that allied can launch offensives. Again the question is with what! (Above explains it) I will receive just US 4 BB's (or was it 5) by MID 1943!!! With that kind of a surface force it is pretty much a fact that no serious offensives can be made.
He knew the positions of my Naval forces including my CV's which where trying to run to South Pacific and than to WC. Those were hunted down. (I'am very reluctant to commit my RN due to this)
e) Nemo has pretty much destroyed merchant fleet too. Meaning that my economy and such will suffer. In addition those extra CVL's he seems to have can patrol much larger part of the map. Also he does a lot of recon planes too (subs + other ships) meaning that most of my troop deployments will be a suicidal.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Another thing I noticed last turn is the fact RAF is stuck with those dead beat Buffalo's.
Nemo pretty much destroyed them on the ground before I could withdrawn them to India.
What this means is that the pool is empty. I mean 0 left of them so I those that managed to escape the slaughter are still flyable. But since there are no replacements nor is there anything left in pool once these planes are destroyed than that is it.
And since I cannot upgrade/downgrade or anything with the British aircraft until May 1942 = Catasptrophic.
[:@][:@] ... so now Nemo can really have an field day with his Indian conquest.
Well I'am still going forward with this one since I made an commitment to do so. Nemo stated that to keep things intresting he will be assaulting NZ, Darwin, India, Russia, Continental USA, China and USSR. Eherm, talk about one sided affairs.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
I forgot to mention that Next thing to thing to do is also to withdraw all the US ac's currently at Luzon. Simply because they are at no use there and have consumed some of pools too. (allthough this is definately not the reason my I'am lacking airpower)
I was hoping that I could have given Nemo hard time here (Philippines) with my fighters and bombing his transport ships. At 10 000 feet these bombers are ineffective and since I always have played with an honour rule that I will not be using my bombers on naval strikes below 10 000 feet due to that being unrealistic altitude to 2E and 4E bombers IRL. Well I do not regret this at all.
So basically fortress Luzon grows stronger by the day but there is simply noway to put in good use. I don't doubt that he will land here sometime in future but to be realistic Nemo don't have hurry nor worry about these bases.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Maybe RHS wasn't the scenario for you ? quite honestly why ??? didnt you read up any documented changes or even fire up a 1st turn as japan ??? you can guarantee he did as allies. Being honest here I think you made some rather blazee assumptions and didnt check them out. Now ive been rude to both of you .. i feel better .. although nemo did state his case for JB well and i understand his reasoning i still feel its a bit iffy .. landing on the base to the east would be fine and would accomplish much the same really without incurring my ire [:D]. hehe
and stop fighting in the air over the PI ! .. its crazy .. stand down and run like the devil with his pants on fire. As a matter of fact stop engageing him in a2a combat at all if you can. you know your pools suck so stop .. I think nemo was referring to allied sqd arrivals being higher than stock not the replacement rates. even in stock P40B is awful and the P40E is unchanged. whats the rate of hurricane and spit by comarison to stock? .. you should try nikmod. BAD 4E repacemnts and no spit till mid 43 [;)].
One thought on your BB Losses. save the RN BB's . given your massive PP pools allied withdrawl can be ignored completely. and the old R class will make up the loss of the slow US tubs. I'd expect more RN surface ships are in this mod too, you'll get your BB's from there . and dont forget you can hide them in aden so no need to rush them to aus. although i'd be tempted to run what you can now while you know where the jap cv's are.
I think you need to be more patient, remember your 1st invasion of wake ? ( old AAR vs vorester). back off a bit and take a breath while japan has a huge advantage. also the zero bonus is at max right now so expect it to be uber , it will become easier in time. the P40 can fight the zero without the bonus very well. with the bonus its a 2-1 or worse ratio.

Actually I dead read about RHS from threads in Scenario + Design forum. I knew RHS gave some advantages in EOS scenario but Nemo insisted that we this one so I though what a h**l.
Propably made some mistakes. (But personally I don't see any drastic ones done... I mean BB's were doomed... I did separate those transport TF). I tried to move my CV's southward since I couldn't have directly to South since he captured Palmyra in the 1st turn.
I will hide RN propably to Aden. They should be safe there. Whatever happens in India has to done with them for now.
Yeah, it really seems that PHI is not worth the fight. I will move my ac's out of there and basically he can do whatever he wishes with it.
Johore Bahru was iffy move but I was too kind to object that invasion since we did not particularly agree to that.
Nemo really has tendency to "exploit" the game mechanics at maxium. As said he conquered all the key bases with such an speed that there is simply nothing to done. He knew from his Lunacy game exprience how important it is to capture India quickly and now he has chance to do so. (The Singapore rule was actually meant to buy time to at least get some troops into it before the battle begins)
If I remember correctly I will receive 17 Spitfire's and 21 Hurricane I's per/month.
Yeahm I remember the Wake. That PBEM has actually been very enjoyable not historical accurate but I think at least that both of us are enjoying that one with FDR now. Other one with Dave is going along nicely too.
As for NIK mod... What I read it is excellent...(from your AAR and Speedy's)... but I wanted to give RHS a try and a chance. Also as said I wohn't quit since I always keep my word.

While that's commendable, this game takes so much time I'm firmly of the opinion both sides need to have fun with it. If you're not enjoying this game, why bother?
If you think the scenario design is unbalanced, few if anyone on the board would think less of you if you decided to stop. Certainly your oponnent couldn't complain as he's left two games due to what he thought were poor design decisions.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Good luck whatever you do. [:)]
RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Definately this is not fun at the moment.
I will think about the future of this game. I think Nemo is a niceguy but if you have not something clearly in houserules than he going forward with it. Even if it somewhat againts the "spirit" of the houserule imposed.
That is not my style of an game. I know he complained me withdrawing couple of units to Singapore and thus hindering his land movement. To be honest yes I did so so the assault value at Singapore was just above 200!!! [:(] Now it is up to 350 which is not much either.
As for the future of this game well I don't know. Actually read about PzB vs Andy Mac thread and seems that he is out of Hellcats. (so the rates propably are somewhat iffy)

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
I hope you will forgive my reply here. I've tried to stay out of Nemo's games as I am still more than a bit irritated by his bailout on my prior game, however I thought I might chime in here for a bit. Aztez, you mentioned that "if you have not something clearly inthe housefules than he is going forward with it. Even if it somewhat againts the "spirit" of the houserule imposed." You might go back to his Lunacy and Shrewdness thread and read my post on that thread setting forth Nemo's comments to me. He was continually harping about the spirit of the game when he agreed to a no holds barred game.
He has to decide which kind of game he wants, tell his opponent, and then play by it.
This said, I would continue to play out the game. Find an exploit that will hurt or delay his plan (he can't handle having his timetable screwed up) and use it. My guess is that he will then suddenly get disenchanted with the game.

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Hi,
As you know I did follow the lunacy saga and that was quite an ride.
Basically what we have here is somewhat of an samekind of an strategy Nemo. Rush to India before it can be fortified. (Than blockade Aden via LBA). Withdraw most of the troops from India to be used in other operational areas.
What else will be on target list for 100% certainty before:
1) Those atolls and bases in South Pacific.
2) Definately Aleutians too.
3) Hawaji.
4) Northern Oz.
What is will be on target list for 99% certainty:
1) NZ and operations in China.
He does not have worry about US Navy. Nor do I have ability to ship troops via war zones due to lack of covering ships.
I base this assumptions on your Lunacy game. I don't have problems him invading South Pacific, NZ, Northern Oz, Even Hawaji & Aleutians, Batlling it out in Russia and China. I would love fight in Philippines too. But some restrictions should left.
While he can capture whole India it takes that out of the game. Aden or not. LBA's will destroy any invasion heading there. I think Sneer said wisely in his game againts Raverdave that it would be lunacy to think the whole India would fall. He actually just occupied the easter part and maybe someway towards Inner India. I guess that was historically possible. I mean the game should reflect somewhat of historical possibilites and impossibilites. I mean Japanese offensives first and than the counter offensives by allied forces.
Thanks for the comments istjustme! I do appreciate it! Btw is that game still ongoing againts someone else?

Hate to sound nasty but what did you expect the game would be like? Why on earth did you challenge Nemo when it was clearly his style of game? I am sorry to say this but it seems you jumped in over your head. Unless you play the game his way he will hand you your head on a plater.
As for quitting. Just recall his two previous games. Quit after losing his first carrier battle and blamed it on the mod. Quit his famous “anything goes” game after his opponent used his tactics back against him. He is a bad loser and poor sport. While I am of the belief people need to stand by their word, you agreed to play to the end, you could justify dropping out as Nemo does the same.
Worst case scenario find someone to continue for you.

Hi,
Allthough I basically he is actually quite an nice person.
The houserules where imposed basically to stop those type of things that happened in Lunacy games. I'am quite fine of loosing a lot of ground but eventually the tables should turn. I guess you could categoriaze me to be somewhat of an historical style of player. (Since I like to read about History and such)
I need to think and be contact with him about some issues. Let's see what he thinks.
RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
The game is ongoing and my opponent is taking a hard run at Karachi. Part of me hopes that Karachi will fall so I can show the turn to Nemo.
Aztez, it looks to me from your house rules that they mostly cut against the Allies and less so against the IJN. But I do agree that you should play on. Eventually the tide will turn.

I did make an proposal for Nemo and waiting to see what he thinks. Here it is a nut shell:

A) India. Well we should battle it out but not the whole India should be captured though. (It was historical impossibility) I say capture Southern coast and move towards inland but you have to stop in central India. (We can look into map to see some kind of line) Also there should 3 hexes out of LBA strikes leading down Oz. It can be supplied from Aden/India.

B) Russia. Fine I’am willing to battle it out before 1943. (Manchuko 85% of the Manchuko AV should stay in Russia even if it fall. This to indicate the propable Russian invasion coming from Mainland.)

C) Aleutians. I’am willing to battle it out too.

D) Oz. (Northern Oz is fine to capture. So is Perth but Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane definitely off)

E) China (Fine to battle it out but you have to leave 85% of the army AV there in garrison duty if it falls.)

F) Philippines (No restrictions)

G) Hawaji & NZ (Fine to battle it out.)

I) WC & Panama (Off limits. Same as Aden)

H) DEI (No restrictions)

I) WC & Panama (Off limits. Same as Aden)

RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
´ORIGINAL: itsjustme
The game is ongoing and my opponent is taking a hard run at Karachi. Part of me hopes that Karachi will fall so I can show the turn to Nemo.
Aztez, it looks to me from your house rules that they mostly cut against the Allies and less so against the IJN. But I do agree that you should play on. Eventually the tide will turn.
Hmpf, sounds like it still bloody. It would be nice to see it updated in your AAR [;)]
RE: RHS Aztez (A) vs Nemo (J) - Allied perspective
Personally. I don't think that those proposals are asking too much to ask.
This way the game would be kept out of Lunacy style and at least have historical flavour to it.
I don't know what the people reading this do think! [&:]
