Heavyweight bout: Yamato vs. New Jersy

Post by ny59giants »

Has anyone every run a simple simulation on WitP between these two mighty ships meeting on the high seas (no escorts)??
I know there are a lot of variables that go into surface combat, but as a former player of minatures, I would like to see how certain classes of ships would do against each other.

As a Boise fanboy, I think it would win against most, if not all, of the Japanese CL's. [:D][:D]

I'm just interested in how they would fare against each other in WitP, not from other historical or non-historical perspectives.

Well, that's a given, considering the the USS New York was a WWI era battleship, used for invasion support in the European theatre of WWII. The thread, however, was asking about a mano a mano between the Yamato and New Jersey!

Not much of a contest, as most Japanese "CL's" were basically Destroyer Leaders. The Japanese CL the Boise was modled on (the Mogami's) were rearmed as CA's before the war.

Yes, but everybody knows that New Jersey is nothing more than the "the greater Manhatten area", so it might as well be New York...

Sigh...[8|] I've done it, and it came up about even. Both ships spanked the other hard, and both were combat ineffective at the end, but neither was sunk.

Yeah, and south and southwest Florida are naught but boruoughs of NYC itself. It's starting to spread even up into the central Florida "hill" country these days. How are your local rednecks taking to that???

OK, we are now skating on thin ice.... [:D] [:D]
That means that most of western CT should be considered part of NYC.

What he should have typed was,

"How many posts until the DKM that shall not be named, that was escorted by the Prinz Eugen while having a battle with Prince of Wales and Hood where the latter was destroyed, and was hounded by the Royal Navy until her ultimate demise (under questionable circumstances) off the coast of France"

Actually, everything east of the Mississippi is a suburb of NY. Except Long Island. Long Island is really the capital of New England.
