Any tables

Post by mqcorp »

Hi.

I have some questions about tables.

I have no idea why my forces held position when odds were equal 14 and two turns later my forces had to retreat, when odds were only 2. The same entrenchment value (3), the same leader.

Do you have any tables (air combat, leaders affect, odds and combat result - probability of holding position or retreating).
I think it is the greatest war game, I've ever played (I play it for many years), but I'd like to know a little more about this game.

Please help me.

there might be details on that in the manual which should be in the WiR directory. here's another handy little document you may enjoy - some of the info may be out of date but most is still very handy!

Thank for your reply.

I know this document. I've found it somethere in this forum.
I've read a pdf instruction from the wir folder too.
But I'm afraid you won't find there answers to my questions.

I've read a pdf instruction for war in the pacific and for western front.
I've found there some details about an air combat and leaders influence and I wonder if the same rules we have in wir.
Unfortunately  I haven't found there any information about odds and results. I know that odds=AV/DV, but what about probability of combat results. I've written, that my forces held odds 14 and they retreated odds 2.

Maybe they simply do not publish tables, to make game more exciting?

i guess this is all there is in the instructions, and chances are since the manual was written the game engine has been messed with quite a bit.

but what will be of huge insight for you is if you read the txt file with all the changes from 2.0 to 3.3 which should be in the WiR dir. if you don't have it i can post it up...

Hi there.
Thanks, but I have this document.

I'm afraid you don't find any answer in this document and you don't find any answer in the pdf instruction for wir.
To make a long story short:

Retreating:

In the instruction one can read:
"Whether or nor a unit reatreats is based on the combat odds and the defender's fortification value. The higher the value the tougher it is to force a retreat".
That's all. No details. No answers. I know that it depends on these two factors, but how -  you can't  read.
There are no information about this subject in the readme.txt (chances and bugfixes from 2.0 to 3.3 version), too.

In "Western front" instruction you can read:
"The total fort level of defending units and the final combat odds will determine whether or not units will retreat. (...) The attacker must have odds of greater than 4 times the defender’s total (+1) fort level to get a retreat result. For example, if a defender has fort level of 4 the attacker needs odds greater than (4 * 4) + 1 or 16+1."
I know that they changed algoritms for a losses counting, but I don't know if they changed reatreat formulas too.
Moreover it is the formula from the different game, so I can't be sure, that it is the same.

Air combat:
There is no information about this subject in the wir instruction. Only general ideas - depends on this or that, but no formulas. In the readme.wir file you can read, that they changed formulas for a fighter - bomber combat, but still no details. A canon against a durability, but what rolls?  What about probability? Where are  experience influence?
You can read  some  information in  "PacWar" instruction, but I don't know if this formulas are in force in wir.
I'm not sure what means sentence:
"In air-to-air combat when an attacking aircraft scores a hit against a defending aircraft, (...)"
I know that is based on dogfight  of crafts, but what about formulas? And where are an experience influence.

Leader:
I haven't found any formulas about leader influence.
I know, that he can make his troops more supply, but how - what about a roll formula?
He can make reinforcement before battle , but  where -  what about chances?
What about shatter rolls - I know that he can protect his troops against shattering, but what about rolls?
If he has any influence on air combat?

Many many questions and no answers. I've found many formulas in "Western front" and "PacWar" instructions, but there are only few formulas in wir instruction. They  gave you  only general ideas, without  details.
