Shaun,

So then regarding your explanation...how can a player who shows a potential of...say...40 have a red down arrow? If he's declining, then he really doesn't have any potential, does he?

Which brings up another thing about the process...you speak of how my "scout" views the player...what does that actually mean? Since I don't have any idea of what my scout is looking at, how do I know if he's accurate at all or by how much? Is the scout a reading of REALITY or is there some "fudge factor" in there?

I remember back when we could actually HIRE scouts...but that's no longer in place. I'm starting to wonder if it shouldn't have been removed, since then I'd at least know how to read that scout rating for certain.

I used to bet on the 68 - now I'd bet on the 40, as he has one more year to grow, and he starts with a huge head start.

Yes, I came to that conclusion before. He has already shown a certain amount of talent that the other hasn't developed at all yet. Plus throw in the extra year of important developmental time. There is something to be said for potential, but also something to be said for already possessing a certain skill level and being young.

Regarding 'scouting personality', we used to have different scouts per team, but that added a lot of processing time for fairly little benefit, and Shaun scrapped it. So, currently, all scouts are the same; they are equal; they give you a good *but not perfect* view of the universe.

See, I did not know that. It sounds like there could be some 'fog of war' going on with the scout ratings? Which, if this is true, really makes me happy. I'd like to have that confirmed, if possible. I think it is important.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say that the current system makes me very happy and satisified, being better than anything I've seen.

I have been having issues getting onto this forum for the last two months or so. I've got my problems figured out and just wanted to say that I am very pleased with how this issue was resolved. My current association has such a great feel about it. Well done Shaun!

Hey, welcome back!

I'm glad you saw this thread - your posts back in the day were what started the snowball that led to this change, so here's a big 'thank you'! [:)]

Woodruff, I can't answer your questions, so I'm waiting for Shaun to respond.

Duck - I'm sure that there are at least some 'hidden ratings' which don't factor into the scout's report, so yes there is some 'fog of war'; its hard to say how much.

For people who really like that 'I don't have perfect knowledge' feel, remember that you can adjust the ratings scale: its a lot harder to build the 'perfect team' on a 1-8 scale than it is on 1-100.
