Total Pro Golf

Post by puresimmer »

Guys, I have some time here before flying out of Boston, so I thought I'd pass along that a game I did some volunteer work on has just been released. It's from Wolverine Studios and it's called Total Pro Golf and it is pretty darn fun. I think it will surprise you how fun it is, assuming you enjoy golf. The demo is here: http://www.wolverinestudios.com/downloads/TPG/TPGDemoInstall.EXE

I have really been enjoying contributing to the development of this game. I'm also enjoying the heck out of playing it. I wish I had this idea! Anyway, I coded the in-game animation/trajectory stuff and now I am looking at adding some features to the course designer (which is really what I think will make this game take off -- creating a 2D course using all the cool images available on the web takes just a few hours!)

Be sure to give the demo a try, I think you'll be impressed.

I havent' found much "tactics" involved. You choose the quality of the club and balls, but I'm not sure why anyone would pick anything but the best quality since cost doesn't seem to be that much more. You choose a caddy and trainer, but it's pretty easy to figure out the best guys who will work for you and again they don't cost that much more either. You set a training schedule, but again there's only four choices (including resting).

I'm not saying the game is bad, but it's not the type of game where you are forced to make game-altering, significant decisions like in some games. This feels more like a game where you can only make little tweaks here and there as you watch your character progress through the game.

Downloaded and played about 2 months worth. Its pretty cool. Much like PS, I dont care much for the 'in game' stuff just cuz I dont like it. But the behind the scenes management is pretty cool.

BTW I hate golf.

I would play the demo again. Theres a chance I'd buy it too.

Verizon - Of course a pro golfer is going to get the best clubs and caddy and trainer money can buy.  What about the in-game decisions, like club selection, whether to play it safe and go around the trees or take a risk of hitting it out of bounds, things like that?  To me that is where the true strategy of golf comes in.

If you set your ratings too high (say 90+) then you'll win so often and get the best stuff that the game can seem to lack game altering significant decisions.
Try the JAG tour with ratings in the 60s.

Just a heads up that the new demo is out also. It allows you to go 100 days into a season.

I gotta tell you, I dont play golf, nor do i really like golf all that much, but I downloaded the new demo and was pretty addicted to it for a couple of nights. I didnt really seem to be DOING anything much, except placing the shot spot thing on the course, then deciding how hard to swing, but I found myself really trying hard to make the cut in teh tourament I was in. Pretty cool.
