I experienced this problem with version 1. Since I was not sure what you were talking about when you said that you had to repost the league, I thought it my be the same issue and said nothing. When I got version 2 I tried this and the results were the same.

I have learned that you cannot always go by the numbers. In my personal association I have a pitcher who should be great, but got shelled each time he went out. To check out some players on my roster before keeping or cutting them, I wanted to run a few games and see how they perform. Of course this could not be done without getting all teams to 35 players. In an effort to do this I attempted to open Boston to adjust that teams roster to 35 and got the error message shown below. I had no trouble with any other teams and no other menue choices relative to Boston. I can open rotation, reports, line up and graphic view of roster with no problem, but when I try and open this one team using Modify roster & lineups this happens. It happens with no other associations that I have created or my version of PadresFans NAMBLA.

Am I the only one with this problem and do you suppose that if not fixed, any issue will arise when Boston plays New York Y

Sometimes I will be in the Matrix chatroom and just stay in there while I am working on things, so if you need to talk to me, you'll find me there.  For chat, go to Services at the top of the forum and then choose the 'Live Chat' option.

ORIGINAL: Woodruff

That's Earl Weaver for you.

But can ya complain with the results? Hey, I didn't even choose the '71 team that had four 20+ game winners. [:D]

Delta, I think you are on to something here. I am having a problem with it, too.

Let me mess around with it a bit.

EDIT: can't make any headway with it, no matter what I do. I'll have to forward this to Shaun as it is a system or import glitch.

I'll have to check all the other teams, too. [8|]

Everyone can hold tight, but for those teams needing to drop players, please figure that out. If I have to re-import [:@] they'll still be dump players and you'll want to ditch them.

I am still using the last "debug" patch that was created (1.31 beta debug build), so I was able to get the error message for this team, and send the debug information to Shaun

Just checked with a newly created 4-team league that includes 1941 Boston and that seems to be the offender.  I relayed the info to Shaun and will see if I can find anything about the team players that is out of the ordinary.

Sorry Ted - gotta retire you early.

One question....Is this a season replay or are we going to be bringing these teams past one season ?

I dont care if we do or dont (if its even possible), but it could effect whether we cut young guys with crappy current ratings, or if we keep them for the future

One season experimental.  We can reload and do something after this, but as the above problem illustrates, there are issues that have to be worked out.

And I really am not sure at all how the database would work teams from different eras in regards to player rating progression/regression.  Don't know at all.

I may have stumbled on something that could be causing the error. I posted it in the support forum. Of course, Im a total newbie when it comes to PS so I may be wrong.

I exported the league file to a database and the following is a list of Boston's players.  I am sure the formatting will be off.

"PlayerID" "LastName" "FirstName" "TeamName"
1 "Carey'41" "Tom" "1941 Boston"
2 "Cronin'41" "Joe" "1941 Boston"
3 "Dickman'41" "Emerson" "1941 Boston"
4 "Dimaggio'41" "Dom" "1941 Boston"
5 "Dobson'41" "Joe" "1941 Boston"
6 "Doerr'41" "Bobby" "1941 Boston"
7 "Finney'41" "Lou" "1941 Boston"
8 "Flair'41" "Al" "1941 Boston"
9 "Fleming'41" "Bill" "1941 Boston"
10 "Fox'41" "Pete" "1941 Boston"
11 "Foxx'41" "Jimmie" "1941 Boston"
12 "Grove'41" "Lefty" "1941 Boston"
13 "Hale'41" "Odell" "1941 Boston"
14 "Harris'41" "Mickey" "1941 Boston"
15 "Hash'41" "Herb" "1941 Boston"
16 "Hughson'41" "Tex" "1941 Boston"
17 "Johnson'41" "Earl" "1941 Boston"
18 "Judd'41" "Oscar" "1941 Boston"
19 "Newsome'41" "Dick" "1941 Boston"
20 "Newsome'41" "Skeeter" "1941 Boston"
21 "Peacock'41" "Johnny" "1941 Boston"
22 "Pytlak'41" "Frankie" "1941 Boston"
23 "Rich'41" "Woody" "1941 Boston"
24 "Ryba'41" "Mike" "1941 Boston"
25 "Spence'41" "Stan" "1941 Boston"
26 "Tabor'41" "Jim" "1941 Boston"
27 "Wagner'41" "Charlie" "1941 Boston"
28 "Williams'41" "Ted" "1941 Boston"
29 "Wilson'41" "Jack" "1941 Boston"

I also noted that about 10 players are on more than one team.  Example Pete Rose 75 & 80.  (Cincy & Philly) Was that intended?

I doubt this is the problem since the names are technically differant and each has its own serial number.

Shouldn't be the issue.

Check the support forum as that is where we're posting all the info.

Yeah, I saw a few players who are repeats, but what can you do?  Thanks for the report, though.

Now what would stink would be a two teams from the same year with the same player on it, as in the case of a player being traded.  But not even sure the DB would do something like that...

I'll be home later tonight to download the league file and check my roster and make what changes I need to.

I DL'ed the file, and had to DL Winraw as well since I have never used it. At any rate my team looks right and it says I have 30 guys on the roster.

From my perspective things look good and other than some adjustments to the batting order and a couple of other tweeks the Dodgers are ready. Personally I am not that concerned about the rules. My preferences would be:
1. No DH (real baseball) and eventually a DH and non-DH division would make sense.
2. No closer rule but again don't really care.
3. NO FINANCIALS.....I am not smart enough and we are only testing this out.
4. Prefer a 154 game schedule but I can understand the desire to go with 162.
5. Lets get going....

Thanks, DNeely (David) Chat idea is fine but I am in AZ. so the 3 hour time difference can be a problem, plus I am a teacher with a terrible schedule.

Guys:

I forgot to mention, I suggest you post a poll or some other method so we can just vote on the rules if SittingDuck thinks it will cause any problems. Personally I think our Commish should decide what he thinks is best and just post them!! Assuming this works out and we all enjoy it and want to continue then we can do it via email.

One last request I hate used names like SittingDuck or Akcranker (nothing personal just the ones I remembered) I would like to know what everyones "real" name is and be able to communicate that way.....

The name is Phil here. Duck works well, too - and sounds odd enough to suit me.

We're in a holding pattern until we can get some help from Shaun. There is some type of Lahman DB and PSBB incompatibility which keeps us from moving forward.

Nonetheless, what I need from everyone is:

1) Players you will drop to meet initial 33-man rosters
2) What type (positions) that you want your two scrubs to be (to fill back up to 35-man rosters) - remember you can make them dual position players if you choose

Other than that, there is nothing anyone can do. FWIW, the initial inertia to get a league moving is the hardest. This thing will take off like a rocket after we can set lineups.

we can't do the button polls, because only moderators on Matrix forums can do that, but we can do informal forum topics polls, if someone wants to start one. I agree that the commish should make the ultimate decisions, however.

Oh, and it's Tim (tbear2b)

What things are you guys ultimately concerned with?  We can do a poll or two.
