About engage

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

About engage

I have a question regarding engage-target command, when I give a platoon target with this, is it truly so that they don't target any other targets during that phase even if their target dies in the very beginning of the phase. So far the engagements I've seen have gone like that. I give 2 panzers the same target via engage-target (even when they both can see 2 or more targets) since I want to make sure that incoming fire is reduced as fast as possible, i.e. maximize firepower against a single target. Usually it happens that the target is killed in say 5 seconds after the phase is executed after which to my amazement the 2 panzers keep on targetting the already dead and burning tank for the rest 35 seconds and do not automatically engage the next target that is clearly visible right next to the burning target just few meters away. Is this intentional, or is my perception wrong?

I also have a question about Engage-Move. It seems that when I give a platoon commander the order to Engage-Move somewhere, often times the platoon leader will continue moving but the subordinates stop and remain wherever, possibly the place the first had a fire opportunity from the Engage-Move order. It still shows their status as Engage-Moving, but they never do unless you give them a new order.

Anyone else know what Im talking about and how to best approach a target ? I thought Engage-Move would send the unit towards a destination and they would stop and engage targets of opportunity on the way but that does seem to be what happens.

Yes, that's correct. We decided by design to keep re-targeting during a phase to a minimum since we allow retargeting every 40 seconds. In effect, this usually means that no more than 20-30 seconds pass before a vehicle retargets. With that said, we have decided to allow for more opportunity fire in the engagement AI with the first expansion, keeping in some realistic delays based on nationality and unit on how quickly automatic retargeting would happen.

From what you describe, it sounds like the rest of the platoon may have already had Engage orders of a different kind? The platoon commander's order will override theirs if it's of a different order type. You may want to try giving them a Defend order first, then Engage-Move, that should reset all of them to Engage-Move orders, IIRC.

No, Engage-Move allows movement without losing the Engage main platoon order, which gives you the best ROF in the reaction phase, for example and for the Soviets means you can switch to Engage-Target without any delays. The order you describe above where they simply move and fire as targets appear in their front 90 degree arc or so is really Advance.
