ASW
-Enemy forces are attemting an intensive submarine campaign against Japanese transports, lots of enemy subs hit in the last two days, but Japanese transports also took hits. The heroic Samurais at Legaspi received reinforcements and inflicted more losses to the colonial Philippine Divisions.

Why do people keep saying that???
Quote from Hamlet iirc.
bombur , you don't happen to be Niks child by some odd happenstance ? It seems like a DAD trying out new stuff on wargame happy child [;)]
also bombur whats your initial feelings on the japanese factories that i believe were reduced ( possibly correctly i have no idea) in nik 8 .. or is that 8.0b ? i get confused easily these days.
And last but not least Nik .. Thanks again for doing your mod .. is it possible to upgrade to ver 8 from ver 7 ? ( my game vs 2ndACR when he comes back). and what might be the consequences ? I do know no database changes will happen but would that affect the A2A routines ? frankly im happy to carry on with ver 7 as it still seems way better than stock and if japanese naval AA is a bit too tough then woe betide me .. hehe ..personally i think japan needs all the hep it can get bar complete fantasy land stuff.
have a good clean fight chaps .. and remember depriving Nik of coffee is a sure fine way to win [;)]
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit

Hard to say. Nik didn´t reduce starting production figures. Instead he reduced rd factories (I won´t need them in the first months...) and added some inflexibility in the choice of new aircraft, because now there is only one factory for each aicraft. I liked the decrease in rd factories, but I think the more flexible old system was better. To some extent it was my mistake. I told Nik that it was possible, for Japan, to produce too much aircraft, but I didn´t notice my own economy was collapsing despite the fact I was keeping more or less the historical production rates. I´m still running three PBEM games on 5.x and this provides me with a good comparison. The Japanese staff, however, didn´t like some of v8.0 changes[:D], as you can see....

Afraid not. Any database changes requires a restart so previously started games cannot upgrade. The 8.0 version has the economic adjustments in full.....the 8.0b leaves out 98% of the economic changes save for the altered upgrade paths and some small minor tweaks (See da FAQ)
The changes actually did not originate from Bombur's complaints in our last game but were something i'd been thinking about doing for some time. I don't see Japanese production numbers as the problem, more so the ease in which upgrading to better, harder to produce types without really impacting current production. Then again, i may be wrong as some people disagree with this feeling. Hence two versions. Time will tell which is more popular.

Maybe it's time for Nik to try bombardment attacks?
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

-Colonialist propaganda! The true objective of all changes done since v5.x was to deprive the powerful imperial forces from their best interceptors, the Ki-44 and the J2M[:D]

Enemy airpower
-A Japanese press release aknowledged today that the enemy airpower in Malaysia and Phillipines isn´t broken. Some air combat happened over Clark field, with enemy fighters shooting down a Betty and sufferng 7 losses themselves. A Zero pilot noticed that "it´s pretty hard to shot down these P-40´s in Nik mod 8.0, under 5.x things were much easier". In Malaysia, things were even worse, as enemy planes damaged a transport and sank another. However, the worst part happened in Legaspi, where B-17´s damaged 3 transports and left a MSW dead in water. Also in Legaspi, some inconclusive surface combat took part between enemy ships and a bombardment force. While the Japanese force was able to protect the transports, the failure to sink even one ship of the inferior TF was embarrasing to Admiral Goto, whose flagship, Furutaka, was hit by CL Boise[:D]....unlike in RL, however, Admiral Goto survived, he won´t consider sepukku, however, because he still inflicted some extra damage to enemy DD´s. The ASW war goes on but the enemy got the upper hand in this last turn.

RE: Enemy airpower
when the Asiatic fleet docks......there will be ass kicking doled out due to timid actions!
Buffaloes
-Japanese bombers attacked Singapore and Clark field. The escorting Zeroes decimated the enemy Buffaloes and a few planes were destroyed in the ground. The ASW goes on, more enemy subs were lost. On the other side, more 2 ships sank as consequence of air attacks in Legaspi. In Malaya, Alor Star fell.

RE: Buffaloes
A dozen Buffalos were either shot down or written off after forced landings after two days of heavy combat over Singapore. Claims were submitted for 7 Type 0 fighters and 2 bombers. Intel estimates indicated that 1 Zero damaged in combat didn't make it back to base while 4 G3M's also failed to return to Saigon, most likely due to a combination of AA and fighter interdiction.

Liberation goes on
-Hiroshima: 7:00h, 12/24/41
-Tanaka: I have a question, sir!
-Yamamoto: What is the question?
-Tanaka: Why Bombur is giving free intel to the enemy?
-Yamamoto: I don´t know...but the Emperor is always right....
-Yamaguchi: Any info on how the liberation is going?
-Up to now our land troops found no serious resistance, except in Legaspi. The enemy submarine force is suffering heavy losses. At least three subs were lost. Our Zeroes destroyed the remaining enemy fighters in the Philippines (13 enemy fighter losses against no Zeroes shot down). Enemy air power over Malaysia isn´t broken yet but some progress is being achieved. On the other side, we are taking heavy operational losses (11 planes in two days).

-Yamamoto: I don´t know...but the Emperor is always right....

RE: Liberation goes on
At last, a game where the squadrons at Clark Airfield put up a decent fight. I've always thought the American pilots could have aquitted themselves better if the Japanese hadn't gotten lucky and caught so many planes on the ground that first day.ORIGINAL: Nikademus

Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

A few comments on the mod
-It seems Nik is right again on his changes. The way the engine calculates air combat is different for fighters and bombers, it´s not hard for an Oscar to shot down a Buffalo (durability=81 and armor=2), but it´s virtually impossible for an Oscar to shot down a bomber with the same statistics. Today score for air combat (Oscars vs Buffaloes) was 3x1 for Oscars. I still don´t know what are the mod effects on bomber losses. It´s also possible that the bigger durability for fighters result in less losses in the ground (??)

RE: A few comments on the mod
There should be no direct effect on fighter vs. bomber since that routine was unchanged from 7.0 apart from a couple tactical bomber tweaks. Indirectly there may be an effect due to more fighters surviving to actually make attack passes at the bombers.
For example, i'm fighting a great attrtional battle over PM with Speedy in our game. What's happening alot is even with a beefy Zero escort, enough of his fighters survive to take a few battle passes at my Ki-49's and 21's. Those damn Ozzers in their Kittyhawks in particular have been pecking away, getting a kill or two before diving out of combat. Morale has sunk among the bomber crews and the Zero drivers are tired and frustrated at their inability to sweep the skies completely clear of enemy resistance.
