Artillery and AA.

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

Artillery and AA.

Post by Petiloup »

Finaly playing WAW in PBEM games, I experience things that never happened against the AI. Maybe it was part of another post before but didn't see it (didn't look much either).

One thing I noticed is that you can attack with Artillery units and AA solely and it gives you an unexpected advantage.

1/ the AA are firing first against planes even when those are in defense and the best part is that if the planes are even just damaged they don't fight back.

I would propose that when AA attacks planes in defense the plane would bomb them first to even this situation. AA should be a defensive tool not a such efficient one at the attack.

2/ if you put enough Artillery units at the attack you can achieve some nice results in damaging your opponent units then...

... the unexpected advantage is that at the end of the attack they don't take the place but move back where they come from. So you can put in place a good defense. Counterattack if someone get too close and after that you still (depending on the results) can achieve a good defense again.

I would propose that if those artilleries vacate a region at the end of a combat they would occupy that region anyway.

Now maybe there is a disadvantage in AWD to attack only with support units (ART and AA) as for example -1 or -2 in attack then I guess it could be fine also.

Both of these issues are very different in AWD as artillery and flak rules have been changed considerably.

Hmmmm... ok guess it's the kind of answer to say: "Hey buy the new game and you won't be disappointed" ;-)

Good anyway I will.
