List of battles mentioned in announcement

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

Gents,

Gregor very nicely argued why they chose the sce. in Battlefront as they did.
I rest asured that alot of eastfront sce. will come in the future both as stock and user made.
I hope that we also will see alot of pacific war sce. and please not forget Burma [:D]

Ola

Good point Joe, the scenario is for the Battles in Italy game - here is a link to the scenario download page:

Isn't that bizarre?

I wonder if SSG has considered simply selling maps of the key battles of WWII.  In my experience attempting to create sce's from scratch, the maps are the key part to making the sce look good.

i wish SSG would make several maps for sale to the BF community for them to build user battles from.

... such as:
Eastern Front:  Stalingrad/Wintergarden; Kursk; Leningrad/Lake Lagoda; Kharkhov
Western Front:  TAO; Normandy; Arracourt; Hurtgen/Aachen;
Africa:  El Alamein; Tobruk; Kasserine
Pacific: Okinawa; Guadalcanal; Iwo Jima

Of course I know all these would be asking too much but those are a few.

I don't have much time unfortunately for scenario design myself, but I hope others do some of the less covered WWII battles. Here's a list of the ones that haven't been covered for many years, if ever...

Pre-WWII:

Nomonhan (actual clash Japan vs Russia in Mongolia!)
Spanish Civil War scenarios - heaps of possibilities here - battle for Madrid, etc
China vs Japan scenarios...

Pacific:

Madagascar invasion (Allies vs. Vichy)
Leyte
Palau
Malaya / Singapore (this was done in old BF series nicely)
Imphal/Kohima battle
Meiktila (again, great old BF scenario)
Kokoda
China front - lots of possibilities, all of them messy...
Olympic invasion (hypothetical)

Africa/ME:

Dakar invasion (against Vichy; didn't get very far, but might have...?)
Syria/Lebanon operation (vs Vichy; good scenario under old BF series)
Keren / Ethiopia

Europe:

Narvik
Southern Norway (Lillehammer, british landings & retreat, etc)
Murmansk front - several attempts by Germans to capture Murmansk, none got close...
Norway variants (hypotheticals, assume Danish resistance, or Norwegian mobilisation, or British decide to invade first, etc...)
Spain hypotheticals - German invasion to capture Gibraltar, or Allied invasion 1943 or 44
Allied paradrop on Paris hypothetical (no joke - Ridgeway had serious plans to drop 4 divisions on Paris as part of Overlord!)
Italian invasion of Greece
German attack through Monastir gap etc (Aegean game covers some of this nicely at company level - I'd love to see a longer operational-level treatment...)
Invasion of Yugoslavia (w/ hypotheticals - ie, British support, better Yugoslav national loyalty, etc - maybe even option where Italy attack Yugoslavia instead of Greece in 1940)
Case White attack on Poland
German airborne attack on Netherlands (was touch and go for awhile, and German resources much more limited than main thrust through Belgium...)
German invasion of Iceland (hypothetical)
Lake Balaton offensive
Patton's Lorraine campaign
Operation Nordwind
Barbarossa - southern wing, Russian armoured counterattacks around Pripet marshes, etc
Fortress Courland

All just food for thought!

Don't forget the Grandaddy of all the Pacific scenarios: can the Japanese throw those pesky US Marines off Henderson field [:D]?

Oh, and another one: Operation COMPASS.

This battle is seldom played, because in real life the Italians got thwacked so thoroughly. However, while British overwhelming victory seems inevitable in hindsight, in reality a bit stiffer resistance by the Italians, or a little better leadership could have averted a complete disaster. The Brit's seizure of Benghazi was not inevitable, and one can even imagine that with some luck and more skillful leadership the Italians could have held on to Tobruk or even Bardia, at least long enough for British withdrawals to Greece to bring things to a standstill. Even as it was, Beda Fomm was a very near thing.

So, somebody do COMPASS!

One battle I would like to see, is the battle of Shanghai, the Japanese against the Nationalist Chinese. The chinese fought too, and not many games include them.
