Actually Sea Wolf was an all around better plane than the TBF/TBM, but it was too little too late. The late war Dougles Skypirate TB2D was an even more powerful plane, with contra-rotating props, Corsair like gull wings and was capable to carry 4 torps! [&o]

good-looking for a high-gullwing monoplane

Which is the epitome of ugliness.

You being able to look at something like the T.IV and still spout gibberish like that only shows off your own ignorance.

Hi,

Here is the Martin AM-1 Mauler, developed too late to fight in the War. Imagine the jolt when you released all three torps at the same time.

A carrier plane with tricycle langing gear? Wouldnt the landings get a bit...rough?

Modern carrier A/C all have tricycle gear. I believe the 7F7 was the first to have tricycle gear operationally. The PBJ may have been the first with tricycle gear to make a carrier landing (I believe it was the same time they tested the P-51 for carrier use).

So what I want to know is, what kind of ship would this a/c be based on? The float Devastator, I mean?

Could be based on cruisers and battleships... Remember that the Royal Navy operated a float variant of the Swordfish...

So these cruisers and battleships were going to carry 18" torps for these a/c? After they had removed 21" torps from these same ships because it was unsafe? Hmm.

Probably not, but the floatplanes could be versatile nonetheless. HMS Warspite's Swordfish floatplane sank a German U-boat during the Norway campaign, as well as providing gunnery spotting and search.

I would assume that the float-Devastator was intended for something similar.

The Devastator float planes would be based from seaplane tenders (perfect for Langley after she was converted to an AV) and from shore bases. After all, it is hard to sink an island.

I dunno, some seem to sink all on their own.[:D]
Yamato, IMO the best looking Battleship.

So what happens if one of the Torps on the wing fails to drop? Seems like a lot of torque to compensate for.
