PS 2007 v1.37 BETA - Release Candidate 6 Patch Notes
9/9/2007
====================================================

*** WARNING BETA RELEASE *** *** WARNING BETA RELEASE *** *** WARNING BETA RELEASE *** *** WARNING BETA RELEASE ***

Please note, this is BETA software and is NOT an official release. Please do not install this unless you are willing to accept possible bugs and other issues. Be sure to backup any associations you are really attached to before considering using them with a beta. That said, PureSim beta releases are typically very solid and I truly appreciate all the help the community provides with testing them. It is an integral part of the process of getting high quality official releases out the door.

=== 1.37 (BETA RC6) Fixes / Changes ===

- Tweak: Multiple tweaks to the new aging model added in 1.36. There was also a bug that would lead to huge ballooning ERAs over time. This has all been smoothed out and tested thoroughly.

- New: Using the new aging model is an optional setting at association creation time
(With existing associations, you will be prompted when upgrading to v1.37)

- Fix: Fixed an issue where certain PureSim 2005 associations would not upgrade properly to PureSim 2007.

So, once chosen, there is no way to change your mind later? I was kind of hoping to upgrade to 1.37 to pick up the other bug fix. I planned to turn off the new aging model, but only until user feedback indicated it was working well - it sounds like an exciting new feature. But, it sounds like if I really want to use the new aging model, but would prefer to wait until all of the kinks have been worked out, I should simply wait for the official release before I install anything.

Shaun - sounds good. Something I haven't been able to figure out yet. What is the best screen, or what is the best report to use to check on whether someones ratings have changed or not?

Thanks!

I like that you've made the new rating model optional, Shaun. Best of both worlds.

Thanks.

I don't know if they show up on the player ratings change report under the Team Reports section with the new setting, but that is where I go after Spring Training.

YOu'll notice a message that scouts are evaluating talent.  That would be a cue to check the player ratings.  It is happening in my league on May 28.

7-zip (www.7-zip.org) is the new archiving program that Puresim uses for league files transferred online using the built in FTP client. This program is free and open-source and allows for compression ratios 3-5 times higher than the zip format that was being used previously. I believe Puresim installs this when you load the patch and then calls it when archving the league file.

I'm really digging 1.37. How great is it to see Mickey Mantle start slow in 1951 after two years in the minors (.240, 1 HR in April), then be hitting .303 with 17 HR at the end of August?

I have and I see different things.  I'm in 1975 and most of the first round picks are in the majors and struggling at the All Star Break.   This is true of the top 2, Eddie Murray and  Paul Molitor.

Have you tweaked your XML file at all with player evaluations and trades?  Also, is this with a new career or continuing an old career?

This is an old career, default XML. Yes, even with the early import, the AI will start young players if their ratings are high enough. I'm not sure what affect this is having on players overall statistical arc.

I think that 1.37 introduced a problem with the expansion draft logic. I started a season in 1901 using real players imported to their actual teams. After 1901 I ran through the amateur and free agent drafts and chose to expand the league by 8 teams. Prior to finalizing my roster and conducting the expansion draft I imported ~300 players (all unique players 1871-1875).

Here's the BUG : Only two of the 8 expansion teams participated in the draft and they only selected super-scrub CPU generated players ignoring all of the imports. The other 6 teams were empty after the expansion draft. Then during the post expansion free agent period these teams had to compete for the imported players.

I had played 15 seasons with 1.35 expanding numerous times and importing each time without seeing this problem. I am going to recreate the association, run through 1901 and try the same again.

Reran 1901 season and took the same steps as above. This time expanded by 12 teams. 2 of 12 drafted and they took all scrubs. The other 10 teams are empty.

One abnormal operation occured during import. A player with "null" first name was selected to import during and the game crashed. This happened last time too but I had forgotten. This is the only thing that wasn't "text book" during the expand/import/draft period.

Avoiding players with "null" first names allowed me to avoid a crash during import and the draft ran with all teams participating. However, the desired intent of having the imported players drafted in the expansion draft did not occur. All teams filled with scrubs. The imported players are still free agents. I am going to reinstall 1.35RC (the last version I used extensivesly) and see if I have different results. I suspect I will because I know I expanded and had the desired results. It has been a few weeks though so I want to revalidate that assumption.

I ran through with 1.35RC4 again with 4, 8, 12 expansion teams prior to the start of 1902. In each scenario all teams participated in the draft. It appears that that problem was related to the crash during import due to a "null"player name.

However, in the drafts of the 4 team expansion year the teams drafted crdible imported players and some of those on existing team minor league rosters. However the 8 and 12 team expansions resulted in ONLY scrubs drafted by all expansion teams. It seems that the problem exists throughout and the only way to avoid the issue is to expand gradually or to manually populate the expansion rosters.

Shaun - is this something you would consider addressing in a patch to '07?

Using Beta 1.37 - The "0" distances for fly outs to center field is back. It is happening a couple of times a game.

I think the new aging model has caused players to drop off quicker than should be expected.  For example in 1976 the oldest pitcher in the majors is 36 and next is 34.  PSPN gives you the Top 20 and #20 is 30 years old and #19 is 31.

Jeremy

I don't think I'll be making any changes around this aspect of expansion for '07.

BTW, after following your messages I think the entire issue around some teams not participating in the draft was simply an issue of that bad import. Any idea how I might be able to duplicate that import error? Was it a specific year/season/player?

Shaun,

The player attemptingto be imported is McCloskey, - 1875. This is the error I get on the actual import action. The subsequent post will show the game crash from the player screen which follows immediately after the import error.
