My idea of the perfect Napoleonic game

Post by Jsherfy »

Well, its not like this is anything new, but after playing Napoleonic games for years, I still think SSI's Battles of Napoleon is a great model. If someone would update the graphics and add a few features that it lacked, such as some kind of intelligence feature for enemy units you would have an real winner. I look at Austerlitz and it immediately concerns me that it looks like its trying to do too much. The graphics look great etc but will the game really be playable and be at least reasonably accurate. SM's Waterloo looks great but is really not that playable. BON was so playable. I must have logged 100's of hours on it. Also I tend to think that no matter what you do as far as a Nappy game goes you market is somewhat limited do to the subject. Since this seems to be the case it seems a good bet to re-tool a classic. Yes, it might not interest those interested in graphics but it would thrill those of us who have been looking for a playable, intelligent Napoleonic game. I do have an interest in Austerlitz but I will be interested to see what others say before jumping into the fray. THanks for all you guys do. I have bought Steel Panthers North Africa and its great. Now if you could just do this for Battles of Napoleon!

I totally agree with you Jsherfy! Battles of Napoleon is a great game and is the best tactical Napoleonic game to date...if you can get past the dated graphics! I have always dreamed of someone bringing this game back with some updated graphics and tying it in with a strategic level game.
Actually, with a hex editor you can go in and change a lot of the charateristics of that game around. You can create Ottoman troops (in place of say...the Netherlands). You can also modify the weapons too.

Anyone interested can find it here:

Look under WAR.

It is a small download and it is free!
