Finns, Captured AFVs, Blue on Blue

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

Finns, Captured AFVs, Blue on Blue

Post by junk2drive »

I've been thinking about the Winter War and the possibility of fictional battles between the Finns and Soviets in 1942 and 1943.
From Achtung Panzer! website:

"In 1943, Finland bought 30 Stug III Ausf Gs (early model) and in the summer of 1944, another 29 Stug III Ausf Gs (middle/late model). Finish Stugs received the tactical marking Ps (Panssarivaunu - armored vehicle) 531 followed by the number of the vehicle (e.g. Ps.531-19). The crews for the first 30 Stug III Ausf Gs were trained in Germany."

The Finns also purchased PzVIs.

I would be willing to make a mod to change all the German icons in the game to Finland style.
Is there any interest? Would the current maps and scenario editor make interesting battles?
Can captured AFVs be used? i.e. T60s and T70s for the Finns? Or blue on blue battles?

Anything to extend the game is welcome [:)]

I guess you will need to mod the textures for the existing vehicles, that is not too hard.

New vehicles tho' - forget it!

It would be easy to add T60/T70 as Finns (German) simply copy them to a new folder structure and change the nationality to german in the xml. At the moment I think the game only supports german / russian. Certainly the editor does although this can change depending on what extra K/M put out.

No not adding AFVs, just using exsisting German AFVs with Finn markings. We have StuGs and PZIVs, add some T34s and some infantry and you would have a nice force for the Soviets to deal with.
I didn't know if you could easily copy an enemy unit into the friendly OOB.
