How was the name 'FofF' selected?

Post by Greyshaft »

I think "Forge of Freedom" is quite a catchy title and I'm happy to see a strategic ACW game even if you call it "Bobby Lee and Ulysses take it to the Streets", however I don't quite understand whose "Freedom" is being "forged" here?

A. The Confederacy?
B. The Union?
C. The Slaves?
D. Hey it's just a game title! Stop thinking about it and just enjoy the game.

Both sides used the language of "freedom" -- the very popular song "Battle Cry of Freedom" had both a Union and a Confederate version, after all.  Credit for this particular name goes to Becky Williams, the artist who did the 3D models of our buildings ... she looked over my list of name proposals and said "what about 'Forge of Freedom'" and I thought it was catchier than anything on the list, and David Heath liked it, and so the name stuck.  (I still owe her lunch for picking out the name.)  So, I guess: A,B,C, and to some extent D.

David Heath has ultimate say over the names of all games Matrix publishes. (We're still searching for a good way to kiss up to him...)

Choosing a name was difficult in part because many good ones are already taken by previous computer or board games, but also because we didn't want one showing any sort of bias. (I did suggest, however, that we have a second run of games with "The War of Northern Aggression" replacing "The American Civil War," and distribute those boxes at Piggly Wigglies down south...)
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I torment eager potential customers by not sharing screenshots of "Brother Against Brother." Everyone has a talent.

I do like this fellow. He knows how much we like our Piggly Wiggly's. You could place it next to the sweet potato yams and turnip greens. mmmmmm sweet potatos.

LOL Indeed we do, along with some good sweet cornbread to sop up our yummy homemade gravy. Interesting title though...sound more like an AWI game than ACW, but hey..strategic level computer game to take the place of years of playing Victory Games The Civil War boardgame...heck all aboard choo-choo!
