tactical hints (newbie)

Post by laska2k8 »

hi,

A) could please someone explain me how take advantage from the "local reserve" option ?

1) what is the effective range ?

2) local reserve units need to have full movement values ?

B) There's a way to calculate turn/time spent while planning attacks ?

thanks

Any unit can be set to local reserve. It will move until it has exhausted any remaining movement points.

I would advise against using this option. If you want units in local reserve, just leave them on mobile status or dug in. Move them yourself on your own turn.
B) There's a way to calculate turn/time spent while planning attacks ?

Yeah. Your intuition.

I'd advise to look for an opponent who's been playing for years and ask him to explain as the game progresses. Don't advertise for an opponent, pm someone with 1, 2, or 3 thousand posts and ask them for a game, someone like Golden Delicious for instance [:D]

However many movement points the unit has left.

2) local reserve units need to have full movement values ?

No - but they do need to have SOME mp's left.
B) There's a way to calculate turn/time spent while planning attacks ?

If you use the "Plan an attack" function a time indicator shows in the top right - I have no idea what the differnt gold and solver sections mean tho!!

Otherwise the more complicated an attack teh longer it takes - complication means attacking with units from different formations basically - adding in "non-cooperative" units really slows them down.

Another thing it depends on is your loss tolerance setting.  "Ignore losses" will take longer than "limit losses" because the units will fight longer before backing off.

Never use it yourself but talk it up big time... to your opponent and always set to 'Ignore Losses'.

Thanks for the prompt replay, but I'm a little bit confused..

Considering this situation, the defending units red circled are entrenched, in a simultaneous attack both could receive local reserve from the yellow one....

Technically, no. You can set a unit with zero MPs to local reserve. And if you're force 2, it'll be effective.

Right- but attacks don't happen simultaneously in TOAW. They occur in ascending order of complexity.

Of course, it is entirely possible that the yellow unit might intervene in one combat, win it, and then potter off to intervene in the second combat in the same round.
